THE OSHAWA TIMES, Tuesdey, November 6, 1962 9g ~ CAC Welcomes Male Members For a Lovelier You . To Safeguard Market Values Fifteen years ago when the Consumers Association of Caa- ada (CAC) was launched by out- standing Canadian Women's Or- ganizations, it was frankly de- signed to be an organization of women. Women spend 80 per cent of every consumer dollar that is spent. Something new has been add- ed te the consume front. Men are now not only consumers but buyers of consumer products. As such they are entitled to have a voice in consumer plan- ning. Men need consumer edu- cation as much as women do. The Consumer Association -- ever alert to all that affects the welfare of consumers -- has taken timely steps to meet their needs. No longer is CAC wholly a@ women's organization. That most important "Man" in your life is now welcomed as a mem- ber -- or with Christmas com- ing you can give him a gift mas coming you can give him a gift membership and he will regularly receive the "Con- sumer's Bulletin". CAC's latest endeavor is the launching of a new Consumer Testing Program. Early in the new year the results of this testing of some Canadian »rod- ucts will be available to mem- bers. CAC is chiefly responsible for the Canada Standard Garment Sizes in children's. clothing. Manufacturers using the Canada Standard Size label must con- form to , =p: : s i. Specifications, which are ae separate from the style or quality of the gar- ment. Eventually it is intended that there will be CSS for men and women too; and work has already begun on the women's sizes. The women's CSS will be- come an actuality when we, the consumers, purchase children's CSS garments, presently avail- able presently in leading department stores. Manufactur- ers will only produce what they can sell. If the consumer does not purchase CSS children's wear, all this effort will be of no avail and these garments will be withdrawn from their market, For a number of years. this association has been concerned with the standards for the in- sptction of meat. In co-opera- tion with the Federal Govern- ment, they are endeavoring to see that no uninspected meat is sold in domestic outlets. The Consumers Association will ask the government to adopt a pol- icy of uniform health inspection of animals, both before and after slaughter, across Canada. Our local CAC held two open 'meetings in the past year. In October Mr. E. Pottinger, a rep- resentative from the A and P Stores, spoke on the cuts of Altar Society Of St. Philip's © Heart of Church The St. Philip's Altar Society was formed in February of 1962 by Monsignor Philip Coffey of Holy Cross Parish as St. Philip's is a mission of Holy Cross.
