From this Board officers will be appointed at the next executive meeting. Recom- mendations will be made to Pickering township council, which will appoint a museum committee for 1963. Directors who permitted their names to stand are as follows: Robert Miller, Dr. N. Tomilson, Mrs. Melba McKay, Mrs. K. Fallis, W. G. Lawson, Donald Gibson, Milton Parkin, Mrs. Beryl Donaldson, William Brown, Mrs. M. Loucks, Mrs. L. T. Johnston, William Rankin, Miss May Brown, Hugh Gregg and John Grosart. Nomiriees who declined were Donald Beer, Gordon Hepditch, Harry Boyes, and Mrs. Elsa Storry. Feature of the well attended' meeting in the Township Hall, Brougham, were films of the National Film Board projected by Mrs. Ann Howard. Canadian actors portrayed the parts of exciting figures in Ontario his- tory in two movies, 'William Lyon MacKenzie," and "Robert Baldwin," both of which showed scenes from the Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837. These were of special interest to Pickering Township residents| for they showed the part two 'Township men played in the re- bellion, Sam Lount and Peter Mathews, who, after their grim sojourn in prison for supporting MacKenzie in his violent op- position to what he thought was a corrupt government, were hanged. "The success of the Museum should not blind us to historical education," Mr. Mowbray told the gathering. Reports revealed that some 2000 people visited the museum, log house. and log barn this summer, as well as an es- timated 1000 on "History in Action'? day in September. VOLUNTEER HELP Although the log barn on the site cost about $2000 to pur- chase, erect, and complete, Robert Miller, museum commit- tee chairman, said there was more than that donated in vol- unteer time. He thanked the time and effort to this project.
