Miss Carol McGirr, chairman, intro- duced her panel as follows: Miss Enid Wallace, librarian of McLaughlin Public Library, Mr. Jack Hutchinson, teacher at Vin- cent Massey School, and Mrs. Robert Peacock of the Associa- tion membership, who represen- ted thie parental viewpoint. Miss McGirr acted as moderator. Miss Wallace outlined the visit of the Grade 4 and 5 classes to the ljbrary once a month throughout the school year. This visit lasts forty minutes, fifteen of which are spent in the story room where Miss Wallace would read from some special book, enough to arouse the children's interest. The pupils are also taught how to use the library. Mrs. Peacock gave her views on reading in the home, as re- lated to her own family, on reading to the children when they are still pre-schoolers, gra- dually introducing them to the library, possibly through atten- dance with an older brother or sister -- and through to en- couraging them to continue their library visits on their own. This latter can be helped she found, by challenging them on topics of interest to such an extent, the child will seek reference books on his own.
