Maxwell Urges Cost Review In Advertising OTTAWA (CP) -- Auditor- General Maxwell Henderson has recommended that "in the. in- terests of greater economy" the federal government should _re- view its advertising, now cost- ing more than $5,000,000 a year. His annual report, released Monday, said the treasury board now is looking into the matter. Mr. Henderson said that until 1954, government advertising was placed at a special rate under an arrangement with the Canadian Daily Newspaper Association "but this arrange- ment was allowed to lapse." During the 1961-62 audit it was discovered that a publisher, mot named in Monday's report, had pointed out to one govern- ment department that there was an advantage in an adver tising contract. The publisher said the con- tract rate for classified adver- tising was 34 cents a line as against 46 cents under the 'cas- ual rate, a 12-cent difference To qualify for the contract rate, the department would need a minimum annual usage of 2,000 lines, Mr. Henderson said this same department had used 2,624 lines .}of advertising in the previdus two months alone Washington - Resident Tours Area By MRS.
