ANSWER: The easiest way would be to take it to a metal- plating shop which is equipped to clean it in an acid solution. If necessary, it could be re- plated with brass. Or, you can use one of the brass. cleaning and polishing preparations, widely available at super- markets, housewares and hard- ware dealers, followng labe instructions carefully; but, with a bird cage, this is tedious work, THOUSAND-LEGGER QUESTION: We seem to be invaded by thousand - leggers downstairs, How can we get rid of them? ANSWER: Thousand - leggers (millipedes) breed in damp places, of which there are usually many in most _base- ments, Clear the cellar of all damp rubbish in corners and angles and especially around plumbing pipes. Dust these places frequently with pyre- thrum powder; kill each indi- legger as it |vidual thousand - | appears, j ing is-absolutely dry. ODORLESS ENAMEL? QUESTION: In refinishing fur- niture, I find that the interiors of cabinets, drawers, closets -- anything that must be closed up -- retain the odor of the finish put on, especially enamel paint. Is there a type of enamel that is odorless? ANSWER: Yes; there are odorless enamels -- they are so indicated on the label. In re- finishing interiors, doors and drawers should be left open and not closed until the finish coat- PAINTING HEAT RISER | QUESTION: I painted the heat risers 'in our living and din- ing rooms downstairs to match the walls and make them less conspicuous. The paint is begin- ning to peel off. How can I re- paint and avoid this happening again? ANSWER: Painting should be done while there is no heat in the pipe and the pipe left cold until the paint is thoroughly dry; I recommend waiting until after the heating seascn to re- paint.
