McFarlane, King street, Whitby, appeared before Magistrate C. W. Guest charged with failing to deposit the neces- sary one to five cents in a Brock' street parking meter. Accompanied by her husband, playwright and CBC writer, Les- lie McFarlane, Mrs. McFarlane appeared in court represented by Duncan B, McIntyre. On the plea of not guilty being given Acting Crown Attorney Cpl. James Barter said he would ask 'that the charge be withdrawn. Mr. McIntyre asked Magis- trate C. W. Guest that, "'if the Crown does not intend to prose- cute these cases we should have been informed.' Cpl. Barter re- plied that parking meter Inspec- tor Eric Clarke was meant to be giving evidence but had not appeared. He asked Mr. McIntyre if he wished an adjournment. The Whitby lawyer said it was strange they should have to run around town looking for the parking meter inspector.
