THE OSHAWA TIMES, Thursday, Mey 9, 1963 3 Day Celebration Full Of Activity High stepping majorettes, an- tique cars, marching bands' and gaily decorated floats will be part of the mammoth celebra- tion taking place Saturday, May 11, when Oshawa '"'tears up"' its | ne downtown railway tracks. A full day of activity has been by Chamber of Com- dent Gordon munity work of the Kinsmen of Oshawa. Oshawa's Junior Chamber of Commerce is in charge of the Track Removal Parade which will marshall at the Oshawa Shopping Centre at 2.00 p.m. At 4.00 p.m., the parade will pro- ceed east on King street to Ray street where it: will turn north and eventually disperse. Invited to participate in the parade are decorated floats representing many Oshawa organizations, the Band of the Governor General's Horse Guards, the General Motors Pipe Band, the Lindsay porter loaded with new -| cars, an open gondola car and Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Band, the Bowmanville Boys' Training School Band and many more. Also featured are a com- plete line-up of antique cars, w convertibles ree CNR and Oshawa digni- taries, the Irene Harvey baton- majorettes and mary of Canadian equipment for the gen- of Bruce parade route. four new passenger car units, featuring new interior decor and color schemes. They will also have a model of their new Hump Yard set-up on show. In front of the very last train over the King Street Tracks will come Lyman Gifford, Mayor of Oshawa, pumping a 40-year-old 'jigger" or hand car. Mayor Gifford had a practice run from the Hillcroft CNR yard to Bond street on the old hand car in order to get himself in practice for the big day.
