Conn.) the chairman, au- thorized the investigation at a hearing marked by a brief ex- change he staged with the ag- riculture department and testi- mony by author-scientist Rachel Carson. She urged Ribicoff's govern- ment operations subcommittee to seek tighter controls over use of chemical pesticides and more research into their effects on both men and animals. She also. sharply criticized the American Medical Association. The subcommittee is holding hearings to determine whether congressional action is needed to head off possible harmful ef- fects of the increasing use of pésticides particularly in farm insect control. The danger was recently brought to public at- tention in Miss Carson's book, Silent Spring. 30 $57 «657 6ST + IH in $190% 100% 190% --1% 39 9 9 Wiltsey Wr Harg wgusesuts EG-gse = tsi it ul er Me Pee ee +t 2S ee Suxgascsygueys Bégpegudesunh BG ugangeusge, 232288 gztte8stye + Fy Boxgatcuygyces Bo gpesedes ne BGugseg Utgige tno BE gg8be8stes 55 bathe gt + - + = - sges88.82euge Ls Sales to ii a.m ~ COMING EVENTS | % RUMMAGE Sale, Centre Street United BINGO, Bathe Park, at Eulalie Avenue on Thursday, at 2 p.m. Euchre on Sat- urday at 8 p.m. RADIO Park, Grenfell Avenue.
