System Decides Home's Comfort In 'the selection of a home, the prospective buyer may have spent hours, even weeks, on in- spection and shopping around for appearance, style and con- veniences. But it is an unfor- tunate truth that insufficient at- tention is often given to one of the most important parts of the home -- the heating system. This single feature, more than anything else, will make a house a~ warm, comfortable home or an_ uncomfortable, bothersome and sometimes frus- trating place to live. It must be properly suited to the house and it must be adequate in performance to do the job you will expect, There are heating systems on the market today which wil. meet every requirement of the most careful bur 7, In addition, you may choose a heat dist.i- bution system which gives com- plete freedom of furniture "ar- rangement in every room. MANY ADVANTAGES The ultimate .in heating facili- ties may be secured today with hydronic heating (the science of heating and cooling with l- quids). It will pay you at the outset to look into its many ad- vantages. Hydronic heating utilizes compact and attractive boilers which may be fired by the fuel of your choice. The boiler heats water which is circulated by a pump and silently carried through small pipes to the radi- ators. Modern radiators may be had in the new streamlined free standing type, the concealed cabinet type, the concealed type, which is recessed into the wall and, most modern of all, the baseboard type. This baseboard design re- Places the conventional wooden basebcard and blankets the out- side walls with a gentle flow of warmth as well as emitting tadiant heat at floor level, giv- ing even temperature in all parts of the room, Why at the outside wall? Because that 'is where heat is being lost and by keeping the outer walls warm, the best in heating is experienced. Hydronic heating also eliminates the need for basement ducts and the restric- tion of head room. It allows you to fully use the basement as desired. THERMOSTATS IMPORTANT An important feature to be watched in any heating system today advises the Canadian In- stitute of Plumbing and Heat- ing, is the method used to con- trol temperatures. In a com- pact bungalow it is often pos- sible to control the heat in all rooms by a centrally located modern thermostat which starts and stops the heating system and maintains an even tem- perature throughout -- not hot and cold spells, but a steady flow of heat in all rooms. However, the trend is to- wards spread out construction, ranch style, split levels with the more active living areas in the basement. Here, one thermo- stat is not enough; you must control the amount of heat from each area to be heated. Proper controls can be installed on your hydronic heating system te allow you to control room tempfratures in playroom, liv- ing areas, bedrooms, garage, according to your requirements. Since all heat is supplied by one boiler, hydronic heating is flexible enough to allow these features at small additional cost. There are many plus features available with hydronic heating. You can include provisions for automatically melting the snow off driveways and walks -- no mere shovelling, an exclusive feature of hydronic heating. You can provide your domestic hot water requirements from a special coil installed' in your boiler. Check all these features with your builder and plumber =-- you will be surprised how economical it is to have them. \ THE OSHAWA TIMES, Friday, September 13, 1963 7 i A HOME MEANS HAPPINESS -BEING HAPPY WITH | A Home Means Buying Your Home Through A Member of The...
