Ww PORTION OF SPOTLESS NS S \ TONY'S BAKERY New Plant Equipped | With Best Machinery Now complete in itself, Tony's new plant at 80@ Farewell is entirely up-todate and equip- ped with all modern machinery -- even an electric shoe-clean- er in one passageway. Included in the building are food, stock and vending sec- tions, coffee and cash rooms, wood - panelled manager's Offices, the switchboard and the check-out desk. Throughout the plant great emphasis is placed on hygienic conditions and general cleanli- ness. The main section, for bak- ing and food preparation, is a spacious area where all the workers are dressed in clean white overalls. This area con- tains the baking section, with its large rotary oven, grills for frying, various tables for sand- wich-making and wrapping, and an enormous deep-freeze. In this is stored fruit in season so that it may be used in pies out of season. Apart from fruit, everything else hot-dog rolls. Each day 2280 sandwiches are prepared here, and baked fresh daily are 9000 cakes and pastries, 1500 meat pies, 240 fruit pies, 300 sausage rolls and 3000 donuts. 600 hot-dogs and 500 hamburgers are made daily. In addition to this 200 dozen eggs, 1000 cans of cold drinks, The stock section is arranged so that its supply should run out approximately every ten days. It is then completely re- Stocked te last the next ten days. All repairs are carried out in the vending section. Here also, the machines are checked be- fore being sent out on location. In the coffee room the large machines produce 600 gallons of coffee a day. It is not hard to see how Tony's use three tons of coffee beans a month. Similar fantastic figures are familiar in the cash room where approximately 54,000 coins are handled daily. All the counting and wrapping of the coins is done by machinery. The check-out desk is run on the same lines as the desk in a supermarket. Here the men check out the feedstuffs they re- quire during the day. They are charged at retail prices so that the accounts will balance when the cash is returned at the end of the day. Tony's vehicle service also includes the tracks bearing the names Subway and Silver's Lunch. Trucks return once a day for re-stocking, and if nec- essary, another vehicle will be sent out to them with further provisions. Generally these trucks park outside firms and factories where employees come out for their refreshments, but when on the road, drivers will sometimes work on the *'stop-me-and-buy-one"' basis. NEW SERVICE Recently Tony's Refreshments have started social catering. They have all the necessary equipment for such a project at hand and are well prepared for parties and receptions of any kind. They also have women available who will go out to the various functions and give any necessary help with the prepa- rations and lay-out of the food. In this way Tony's Refresh- ments Service offer a complete service, including truck. serv- ice, vending machines and so- cial catering. They also do the baking for George's in Peter- borough and Lindsay. Their facilities and services are far removed from the one truck a by Tony Esposite back Winner To Know More After Canadian Visit LONDON (CP)--Joan Smith, a town hall employee in Tyldes- ley, Lancashire, expects to know a lot more about Canada bfore she flies there next sum. mer than she did whem she wen > contest that gave her the free p.
