Offensive- ly, Wings' best performer was Lemieux with his one goal and also three assists. SHORT NOTES: Buchanan now has 62 points, made up of 34 goals, still the league's second best, and 28 assists ... . Smith's goal was his 17th, and along with Orr's 22, sets them well in front, of any other defence pairs in the goalscoring race .. Confusion still reigns supreme in reference to the number of goals former Jr, Canadien de- Menceman Jacques Laperriere scored while setting the record . y by his wingers. But last night, ©n paper, Buchanan' deft craft-| manship was sensational with his five assists off his line- mate' effort. Little in_particu- lar was flying, and produced his test output this season. His goals brought his season' total to 16 and six in his last two. outings. Generals' victory alleviated the pressure somewhat being applied by Hamilton Red Wings, in their quest for Oshawa's pres- = sixth and final playoff posi- in 1961-62. Officials of the On- tario Hockey Association are non-committal about whether it is 25 or 29, but intend to check more closely to arrive at a con-' clusion before too long . . . Next home action for Oshawa Gen- eral: is this Sunday night when Peterboro Petes, one of two clubs yet to be defeated by Osh- awa make their second appear- ance in Bowmanville. Since their last time, Dec. 10, Gen- erals have sharpened their scor-' ing eyes. Petes blanked Gen- erals 2-0 on that night, but Oshawa is now the proud pos- sessor of an 11-point advantage over the seventh-place Wings. Generals have 18 games re- maining in the 56-game sched- ule, 1é Hamilton has one more, with 19; three against Oshawa. Red Wings, very much in con- tention for two periods, trailing only 5-4 after 40 minutes of play, received a crushing blow when O'Shea's first of two third- period markers came on a flip shot which escaped goaltender Allen Frank. Generals roared right back with another insur- ance marker by Little, and Hamilton faded from the scene. As in Sunday's first period, at Maple Leaf Gardens, Gen- erals ran roughshod in the open- ing minutes, and compiled a 3-0 margin before six minutes had elapsed, But Wings rallied with goals by Peter Mahovlich and Bart Crashley to narrow the deficit to one prior to the con- clusion of the first frame. For the Electras, the scoring was well-spread among their ten players with all but two players hitting the score sheet and led by Fred Whalley with seven points. For the Students, who had to finish the game with only four players, as Garnet Wyly fouled out, it was Tucson who led the way with 16 points. Nancy Puckerin made it 2-0 in the d stanza, isted Janet Moffatt, Penalties to the! visitors helped Ajax double their total in the final frame Leona Sleep scoring two goals, aided by Marleen Gibson on both plays. West Hill girls held Ajax to a 44 tie in the best game of the season. Jan Moffatt, from Linda McCord opened the scoring and then West Hill came back to make it 2-1. Moffatt scored twice from Noreen Pickell and Jill Rennick and Nancy Lawson notched the final tally on a pass from Linda McCord. In final frame, West Hill tied it up and each team scored once in pes last period, McCord for' jax. Keith West of Tony's collected his first goal of the hat trick at the halfway mark in the second period. Tony's seemed to out- play the Merchants by a slight margin in this frame but Ross Hawe put in an outstanding per- formance for the Merchants, stopping Tony's efforts. Tony's hit again early in the third period when West finished off a play from Tran as he out- guessed the Merchants' defence. Coming from behind a 2-0 deficit Mathews started the surge on a blazing shot from just inside the blue line. This seemed to give the Merchants the needed lift they were lacking as Sneddon tied the game followed by Braiden in the winners' net. The first half of this last period was by far City-Wide's best drive as they definitely outplayed Vendo- matic. However the winners came through again in the stretch drive when Ford hit unassisted to be followed in quick succes- sion by Redshaw and Gibson. FIRST PERIOD No scoring.
