It's low humidity (lack of sufficient moisture in the air). To provide comfort at 72°F., room air should have a relative humidity of about 4¢ per cent. This means that the air should be 4¢ per cent saturated with moisture. Even under this "'ideal" condition the nose has trouble keep- ing up. Every 24 hours we breathe about 500 cubic feet of air. In passing through the nose the air is warmed to almost 98.6°F. (body temper- atuie) and about one pint of water is supplied by *he nose to raise the relative humidity to 95 per cent. A pint of water is a lot. for one nose to supply. And the nose loses the bottle with the furmace in the winter time when, os is the" case in many homes, room air relative humidity drops as low as 25 per cent. In disease and old oge the nose simply can't deliver that much water; drainage stops and germs toke over. Hu- midifying the air in the house during winter months isn't easy, even with expensive central air- conditioning. Ready--Jet Set--GO TCA! Time valuable to you? Fly 9 mile-a-minute TCA DC-8 Jet!
