The meetings had been opened to the press last October but some members at a recent m felt the poor rating given board by secondary school teachers was the fault of news reports of committee meetings. Trustee E. J. Harris, support- ing the censure resolution which passed 7-3, said he felt the pres- ence of reporters had marred the public image of the board. Trustee James McMurdo de- nounced the statement, saying it is better to have a marred image than a hidden one. John Dundaés opposed the closing and said children are taught in school that freedom of the press is a goal to the free world--but that the board of ed- ucation, responsible for educa- tion of Brantford children, has seen fit to bar the press.
