The project was started by Dr. L. S. Smith,University of Vic- toria biology - zoology lecturer. Using a delicate steel hypo- dermic needle and other modern medical aids, Dr. Smith and his students are able to mea- sure the clam's blood pressure, which is from one to five per cent of human bloodpressure. "We ae working on blood pressure in clams and salmon to discover how the heart works,"' Dr. Smith said. "If we discover the circula- tory systems of these animals, it may have some application at a later time." ae Tips For Gal Teens By ANNE WALKER All-important on the fashion scene is the pin. This can't be just any pin -- but the right one, designed to dominate your costume without detracting from its line or de- sign. Popular on the teen list are those swinging large pins de- signed for conversational pieces. These are to be worn high on high necklines or can be worn peeping out from a daintly Peter Pan collar. Another fashion must is the scarf, for that 'French' look. For casual wear, try it tied western-style in a triangle... or wear it with a pin ... or be a gypsy and wear it as a stole. Cold Weather Said Cause Of Eruption AUCKLAND, New Zealand (CP)--Unusually cold summer weather and prolonged periods of high winds in the Southern Hemisphere are blamed' by weather experts here on the volcanic eruption last year in the Indonesian island of Bali. Meteorologists say high - alti- tude volcanic dust remaining in the atmosphere has caused a significant drop in solar radi- ation since the middle of 1963. The result has been low- pressure systems, winds and below - average temperatures.
