Impalas To Appear At Boys' Club By RON MASTERS On Friday, the Impalas. will again be performing at the Simcoe Hall Boys' Club dance. Since their debut on Mar. 20, at the Boys' Club, they have made several successful show- ings They have added new members to the band since then, and so they should give a very fine performance. Before the Impalas come on, records will be played by our} very able disc-jockey, F. E. Mackin, who volunteers his time to bring his bandtand and eupply the music. Mr. Mackin has been our MC for most of our dances. Everyone agrees that he does an excellent job as disc-jockey, and the dance committee would like to thank him for sparing his valuable time to aid in this worthy cause. The proceeds from the Boys' Club. dances are. being put to very good use, in that a record bandstand, similar to Mr. Mack- in's, has been purchased for. the Boys' Club. It should be in op- erating order in about two months, and unveiled at the dance celebrating school's end in. June. The dance on April 24 is to be a casual dress dance, starting at 7 p.m. and ending at 10 p.m. Remember, this dance is open only to members of Simcoe Hall Boys' Club, except when a non- member is brought by a Club member. Tickets are available from all O'Neill students at one dol- lar for adults and 50 cents for students. The curtain rises at 8 p.m. and the program includes a humorous one-act play, '"The Sand Box", selections from the junor and senior band and Glee Club, and a fashion show. MYSTERIOUS 8 Students are at present busy trying to figure out the mean- ing of the mysterious "'8" which is referred to in the announce- ments daily. The debating club is in full swing with John Cotter as presi- dent and Mr. Bishop as sponsor. '(Meetings are Monday nights in Room 105. One of the more con- troversial and interesting topics discussed was 'Racial Discrim- ination'. FORM RUGGER TEAMS Switching to sports, O'Neill has formed three rugger teams -- bantam, junior and senior -- which will play each high school once. Practices are held regularly and we wish our teams success. The gymnastic team which re- presented OCVI in the district meet at Donevan Friday night |did well and exhibited a high degree of sportsmanship. Mem- bers of the team include Ron Nathan, Paul Steckley, Bob Middleton, Wayne Murray, Andy. Kryczka and Ron Kitchen. A cross-country track meet was held in High Park in To- ronto jast Saturday. A juvenile and midget team plus Nancy Wilson represented O'Neill. Af- ter talking to a team member, it was learned that Larry Hicks, Glenn Willson, Grant Osborne and Jim Peel were expected to place high among the team standings. Nancy ran an endur- ing and rigorous. mile-and-a- half and should be watched for in future track meets. Twenty- five members of the track team Variety Night Friday At OCVI have received their jackets. . They are yellow, with the word "O'Neill" in red on the back and a red crest on the front. In response to Rod Willmot's request for poets around the Oshawa area, I should like to announce that O'Neill has a rather small but select group of these poets who contribute their works to the class or the Acta ~ Here is a composition of mine which was used in our yearbook last year: THE FALL Summer wanes, fades, seems to die, "'Twixt summer's bright burst of dawn And winter's virgin purity it comes ... The fall . . . where fields in fallow lie And transforms the woodlands fair With nature's pastels -- green and gold Crimson and scarlet, leap out like coals 'Neath snow-white clouds, midst tingling air.
