During the five-and-a-h al f- hour meeting of the Building and Planning Committee the architects each made half hour presentations. The first four to speak, all representing Toronto area firms, were vying for the contract to design a 1,400 pupil secondary, composite schoo] and the last three for a 10-room elementary school which will later be en- larged to a 20-room school. This second school is to be built on a site at Grandview and Olive avenues and the Board plan to open it Septem- ber, 1965. Two of the architects making presentations in regard to this school were from the Toronto area and the third from Pickering. : Site and opening dates have not yet been fixed for the sec- ondary composite school. Cross or- dered reporters from the hear- ing, touching off a series of events which eventually led to release of the official transcript. The inquest had been called by Dr, Cross to investigate the case of a baby bom to a 17- year-old unmarrieq mother in late May in a room of the Chat- eau Laurier Hotel. The baby had either been born dead-or died shortly after birth. Dr. H. Beatty Cotnam, On- tario supervising .coroner, and Attorney-General Wishart both issued sttements in which they disagreed with Dr. Cross' ac- tion in barring the press. It was Dr. Cotnam who released the official record, The inquest had been in pro- gress only 30 minutes when the jury foreman read a statement to. the coroner which said 'we the jury find that we cannot render a verdict as there is no clear evidence of a live birth. Pickering, and Craig, Zeidler and Strong, Toronto, were not given an indication when the committee would decide which one to use but the decision is expected soon.
