Campbell CARTER TROPHY : Oshawa Pair Win BowmanvilleDate': Wood's Continue As Pace-Setters Squad _ $PORTS EDITOR 'Everything From Soup To Nuts' RICHMOND HILL "Dynes", a Toronto Beaches Fastball League entry this year, and reported to have a few stars who from a softball status, are considered to be well or even "over" paid, failed to produce a full team of nine players, at Alexandra Park last night. Coach "Russ" Casey, one softball types who is always considered with game's image and his own team's prestige, was more than little perturbed. They had to default their schedule date to Oshawa Tony's but the little manager -- who made a real hit in his display in the exhibition game that his team that they at least "put on a keen to claim the game as a default -- ' attitude -- but they were also fortunate _ that Casey and his boys were willing to stay around and put on'a show, because the good crowd of fans on hand would have been "'sent home' without any entertainment -- and this would not be good for the game or for Tony's. In the exhibition tilt, Tony's won, but even at that, it was a spirited seven-inning performance and produced some spark- ling plays. Tonight, the other Richmond Hill team, the "Shells" -- an OASA Senior "B" entry, will be visiting Osh- awa, They are booked to meet Oshawa Bad Boys tonight in an inter-league schedule tilt and it could be a good une -- especially if they send Ray Judd 'to the mound. He was just slightly less than perfect, in his last appearance---about a week ago. x x x x x OSHAWA MERCHANTS are playing Ajax Merchants tonight, out at Little Britain and then they go right back against the same club, here at Kinsmen Civic Memorial Sta- dium, on Tuesday night. The regular league schedule game between these two clubs, slated for tomorrow night at the Stadium, has been cancelled, x x x x x BRIGHT BITS -- Toronto Argos, letting their exhibition game performances speak for them this year, instead of the pre-season publicity nonsense that has boomeranged on them in recent seasons, chalked up another impressive win tast night, defeating the B.C, Lions right in Vancouver, It's too early to be sure, but it could be that Nobby Workowski ard his staff have a "happy club" in action this year and since they've always had a lot of talent, maybe this will make the difference this season and we'll see a Toronto football team that is worthy of allegiance. . . . MILWAUKEE BRAVES, much improved of late, tossed another obstacle at Cincy Redlegs yesterday with a 6-2 triumph and Cardinals hung a 9-6 tag.on the Cubs too. In the game that really matters, Giants tied Phils in the 8th inning and won the game with a three-run splurge in the 10th inning... .. YANKEES blanked the Angels yesterday and at the same time, Tigers nudged the White Sox 3-2 and only Orioles kept pace, with their 4-3 win over the Twins: ,. . THEY TELL US you need an extra Cheque book to take in that World's Fair bit at New York but just the same, it looks very much as if the Yankees are going to make the World Series again -- and if they do, this will give a lot of folk two reasons to visit New York, come October. . . . GREEN GAELS chalked up another win last night, as wds expected, so now not even Brampton can even tie them for first place in the OLA Junior League standing. Johnny Davis piled up an even dozen points, to break «Il existing records for a scoring mark, as a Junior lacrosse player. With a couple of games still to play, the Oshawa ace could set up a mark that may never be equalled. The way they're rolling right now would indicate that nobody is going to take that Minto Cup away from Oshawa this year ! FORT ERIE RACE RESULTS Copyright 1964 by McMu Publish! (Daily Raciog Porm). ee Wood's Transport re-establish- ed themselves as league-leaders inthe Oshawa Civic Softball League race, when they turned back Reynold's Aluminum 6-5, last night at Cowan's Park. A stern battle, this one was decided on base hits, with the winners having 13 safeties against only seven for Rey- nolds, with each team naving a pair of errors. The two clubs battled to a 0-0 deadlock until the third inning, then Wood's struck out for three runs when Shepardson singled, Lyzun walked, Attersley doubl- ed and so did Cairnes. Reynold's got a run in the fourth when Wendorf was safe on an infield error and then with one out, Wilson and Hedger both hit singles. Wood's scored two runs in the sixth by Tobin, Sheperdson with hitting help from Lyzun and Attersley. They added the win- |Ining tally in the 7th, when Mandryk opened with a double and scored on hits by Brown and Tobin. Reynold's got two runs in the sixth, by McDonald and Wilson, aided by Hedger and tied the game in the top of the 7th when Branton walked, Rusty Craggs hi: double and with two out, Wendorf singled, to score Craggs. He gave up a run Se too badly. for the first four! frames, as he gave up only singletons in the first and sec- ond stanzas. However, in the fifth, Excelsiors struck for six runs and they added six more in the sixth, to clinch their vic- tory. ~ MacDonald, pitching for Ex- celsiors, gave up a triple to Mike Loople in the first inning but didn't yield any runs until the third, when Knight walked, Fleury singled, so did Peters, Black walked and then with one out, Braveneur singled, to com- plete the four-run rally. Ontario Steel added two in the fourth for their final total, Naida on a single, Knight on a walk ang B. Fleury . and Peters helping out on this at- tack. Excelsiors got to Braveneur for singles in the first two frames, with Noakes having a triple to score Beuchler and MacDonald's triple getting the second one. Ontario Steel was in charge. until the fifth when Excelsiors exploded for six runs and they did the same in the next in- to Foley's in the fourth on hits by Delves and McAvoy and again in the fifth when Pipher got on and scored with help from Woods and Delves, Thompson's got to Cullen for a run in the first inning when Danforg walked and.scor- ed on Earle's hit. They won the game with two runs in the fifth when Williams singled and Earle, Beer and Lawton all add- ed to the rally. LOTS OF RUNS HERE Rundle Garden Centre de- feated Dodd's Motor Sales 15-10 in a wide-open slugfest that was decided entirely at the plate. Vasko started for Dodds and gave way to Giddings in the second inning. Robi went Everett Jackson and Mrs. Mil- Bowling Club. They had a score of 59 plus 1 for their three wins. The trophy had been won for the past two years by Mr. and Mrs, William Joyce, of Osh- awa, The tournament, held annually for many years on the greens of the Bowmanville club, was held in. Dodd's got a run in the first inning, added three in the sec- ond and five in the third--then had to wait four innings for their final tally. Scrham, Hard- ing, McCabe, McGuire, Scura- ton, all hit fairly well for the ning to clinch it, Gorycki, Arm-| strong, Rogers, Fleury, Blyth) and Mitchell, with his homer in| the 6th, all playing big parts.
