' A son Mr.andMrs.Alexander Keenan, he was born in Oshawa August 1, 1930. Educated in Oshawa public schools and OCVI, he married the former Frances Walker in Oshawa in 1955. , He was an ardent hunter and fisherman and was employed by General Motors in the paint de- partment. An adherent of First Baptist Church, he was a mem- ber of Temple Lodge, 649, AF and AM, and Local 222 of UAW. Mr. Keenan served in Korea for 18 months with the Royal Canadian Regiment as a special force of the Canadian army. He is survivied: by his wife, parents, a son Dereck, aged three, a daughter Kelly, aged five, a sister Mrs. S. Wilson, (Kathleen), three"brothers, John Ross. and Wesley, two grand- mothers, Mrs. Ruth Keenan and Mrs. Edith Stovin. : The body is resting at th MclIntosh-Anderson Funeral Home. McINTYRE HOOD Special to the Oshawa Times LONDON -- Despite protests from two churches that beer and: spirits will be available at a bar, a Church Unity Ball at Wimbledon is to go ahead as planned, Baptists and Method- ists. In the Wimbledon area have announced that because! drink will be sold on the prem- ises, they cannot give it their support. However, the orga- nizers are not calling off the! ball--nor are they prepared to ban alcoholic drinks. The Church of England, Roman Catholics, Presbyterians and Congregationalists will all be represented at the ball, but Methodists and Baptists will boycott the event. CUTS COAL PRICE Lord Robens, chairman of the National Coal Board, has announced a price reduction intended to benefit industry if coking plants pass on the re- duction. The good news was that 35 cents a ton is to be cut from the price of coke supplied for carbonization at coke ovens from September 1. But at the same time he warn- ed that householders who de- pend on smokeless fuel because they live in smokeless zones will likely have to face tn- creased prices. EDUCATION FOR INDIA Research workers at the London. School of Economics are to help draw up a 15-year program of educational ad- vance for India. They will de- vise a plan of expansion to provide the country with enough trained manpower to carry out the long-term indus- trial program which India is undertaking. The report will include forecasts for university places, numbers studying dif- ferent subjects and the supply of teachers and schools. The man who will head the research project in London is Richard Layard, who worked on the Robbins Committee which reported on higher education in Britain. : STOLE RADIO AUDIENCE Manx Radio, the Isle of Man's commercial radio station, has complained to the prime minister and to Post- master-General Reginald Bevins that the pirate radie ship "Radio Caroline" has stolen its listening audience. For the past three weeks, Radie Manx has been operating a full service, but since then Radio Caroline has started an offshore broadcasting service. The pro- test telegram said that if this were allowed to continue it will result in the loss of a substan. tial financial investment incur- red in accordance with an undertaking given in good faith by the Isle of Man government. PROTEST SONIC FLIGHTS Farmers have protested that the government's decision to allow 75 supersonic flights over Britain the next - three months was "'callous" and ill- considered." Most of the flights would be over country areas, said the National . Farmers' Union, but there was almost complete ignorance about the alarming effects of sonic booms on livestock. There was no evi- dence, said the union, that ani- mals which suffer shock, hy- steria, abortion, suffocation or other injury through stam- peding or crowding will accus- |tom themselves to supersonic booms. DISPUTE OVER TEA Thousands of Ford workers at Dagenham have started a boycott of the firm's canteen and tea-trolley service, because of an announcement of price increases agreed upon by Ford's and three outside con- tractors who run the catering services in the plants. The price of a cup of tea was in- creased by one cent to five cents, coffee has gone up by the same amount and lunches are having four cents added to the price. Ford's food services mamager said that the in- jcreases were the first in two years and were inevitable be- cause of rising costs. But Ford shop stewards committee has rushed out a pamphlet war warning workers of the new charges and urging resistance to them,
