WORKS SUPERVISOR Boy Hitch-Hiker Had Arm Twisted "f don't believe a word you say," Magistrate Harry Jermyn told an Uxbridge man. at Whitby court Tuesday after he had explained his side of an alleged assault in the town of Uxbridge. Before the court was Harry Brown, of Concession 4, Ux- bridge, who pleaded not guilty to a charge of assaulting grade 10 student Frank Richard Neill of Richmond Hill. In the witness box Frank Neill described how he and a friend started to hitch a ride outside Brown's home. Brown, he said, was seated on his porch drinking a bottle, of beer. 'He told us to move up the road." They stayed, however. Then Brown came down the steps and left his beer in. his ¢rive- way. He then, said Frank Neill, oo his arm and twisted t. partment envelopes last March, The letters, addressd to Mag- istrat H. R. Howitt and Mayor R. W. Smith, complained of an- other Guelph policeman's many girlfriends, of his rapid promo- tion in the force and of his being seen going through wastepaper baskets 'in the police depart- ment office, Both policemen 'denied any knowledge of the letters andij said they might have handled the paper before anything was written on it. They were found guilty of bringing discredit on the reputa- tion of the police, contrary to the Police Act. WHITBY And DISTRICT Booze-Jar Bombs Charge Dismissed sion," he said. "Part of the bomb was found 65 feet away after the blast." He did the same thing with two of the bottle bombs. One of them left a small crater in the ground. The bottle bombs, he went on,.were detonated by an elec- trical charge. The tops of the bottles had been stoppered and pieces of wire flex had 'been in- serted. By using a battery a spark was passed between the two bare wire ends in the bottle and an explosive mixture was a ignited. | "I am not sure but 1 tnink The bombs, he said, were|he also pushed me," he said. Then a man who was driving past saw the incident and stop- ped. He ordered Brown to let go of him and he did so. Giving evidence Brown de- nied the assault and said young Neill had used filthy words to him. He had approachel the boy only to get a light for his cigarette. "I don't believe a word you say," replied Magistrate Harry Jermyn after he had heard from Crown Attorney Bruce Affieck that this was Brown's second assault charge. He bound Brown over to keep the peace for one year in the sum of $200. | Manager: John Gavit ace aA ll al ORIGINAL FINISH LURE "RAPALA" All sizes now in stock, © 1 to a Customer No Dealers Pleose ROD & REEL Fibre glass rod, spin cost reel, both fully. guaranteed.
