EFC STATISTICS Vernon Cole Top Man In Alouettes Surge TORONTO (CP) -- When quarterbacks Vernon Cole re- ported to the Montreal Alouette training camp last summer, he was just another player who had been bypassed by Winni- peg Blue Bombers. He went to Montreal in a mid-winter trade after a three- year stint in the United States Army. But Montreal needed a quar- terback and, as things turned cut, they got exactly what they were looking for. Cole has a 12.8-yard passing average and the' Alouettes are undefeated in three games in the EFC. He has picked up 281 yards in passing, has a .591 av- erage in 13 passes completed of 22 attempts and has thrown three for touchdowns. Figures released by the league statistician today and ¥ which include games played 'up ta Aug. 23, showed Russ Jack- son of Ottaawa Rough Riders, with a 9.7 average per comple- tion, leads the conference with five touchdown passes. Jackie Parker of Toronto Argonauts leads the completion depart- ment with 37 of 61 attempts for a .607 average. WATKINS TOP SCORER Ted Watkins of Ottawa is the top scorer with four touch- downs for 24 points, Don Suth- erin of Hamilton Tiger - Cats follows with three converts and six field goals and 21 points.
