ROBERT BROCKMAN (Mr. Walter Yeo Discusses British Guiana At UCW Meeting Mr. Walter Yeo, formerly of British Guiana, and for the past two years a teacher at McLaughlin Collegiate, address- ed the Albert Street United Church Women at their first meeting of the fall season. He briefly sketched the his- tory of that country and drew to the members attention that the population was made up of many nationalities including Africans, Dutch, French, Eng- lish, Chinese and . Portuguese. Their main industry was their sugar plantations and they often used imported labor. Each nationality had its own religion and met for weekly services. Mrs. Charles Naylor intro- duced Mr. Yeo and Mrs. Wil- liam Stallabrass thanked him. Mrs. James Scott presided and. welcomed the members after the summer holiday. The secretary, Mrs. Clayton Lee, called the roll and read the min- utes. Mrs, Percy Bouille gave the financial report and other reports were heard from Mrs. secretary, Gibbs, on catering. Mrs. Scott reported on the UCW school which she attended in July in Belleville. It was an- nounced that the Presbyterial meeting will be held October 24, in Pickering United Church. October 16 is the date set for the bake sale and the date for the bazaar is November 19. Unit 1 was in charge of the devotional period. Mrs. Roy Corbman read the scripture. Mrs, Stewart Tippitt gave a reading "Miss Matilda's Lily." A solo "Keep Hoping" was sung by Mrs. Mervin Morrison, accompanied by Mrs. Charles Naylor. Mrs, Scott read a poem, "Who Is My Neighbor?" : It was announced that Unit 2 will be in charge of the October meeting; Units 3 and 4 will visit shut-ins; Unit-1, Hillsdale Manor and Unit 2, Hospital. Hitchens, RR 1, Oshawa, and Leo Robert Brockman, son of Mrs. Arthur Wilson, Oshawa, and the late Mr. Leo Brock- man, were united in marriage in Kedron United Church last Saturday afternoon. The Reverend F. H. Ward officiated and the soloist, Miss Eleanor Calvert, Oshawa, was accompanied by Mr. F. B. Bran- ton when she sang "The Wed- and "O Perfect Love." The bride who was given in marriage by her father, was attired in a floor-length gown of peau de soie with a detachable chapel train. The scoop neck- line and train were enhanced by picqueau looped lace which was repeated on the wedding band headdress, holding her elbow-length veil of nylon illu- sion. She carried a bouquet of red and white roses with sprigs of Scottish heather. Mrs. Donald Thompson, To- ronto, was matron of honor and the other attendants were Mrs. Murray Cluff, Toronto, Miss Jean MeNeil, Oshawa, and Miss Wendy Hitchens as junior bridesmaid. The seniors were gowned alike in identical street-length dresses of gold peau de soie with short jackets covered with white Alencon Raschel lace.
