Campbell SPORTS EDITOR 'Everything From Soup To Nuts' OSHAWA TONY'S went down to defeat in the OASA Sen- for "'A'"' Southern Ontario finals last night, when they were nosed out 4-3, by St. Thomas Memorials. The homesters broke in front with three runs im the first frame but Tony's fought back to tie the count with a three-run rally of their own, sparked by Bob Booth's hamer and a two-run mammoth clout by Ron Elliott, rated one of the longest drives seen in the St. Thomas park for some time. Bob Grier pitched fine bali to match Dick Hames, the St. Thomas ace, and the ding- dong battle went to the bottom of the 8th before Memorials got their winning run, with a couple of errors, after there were two out. That ends the season for Tony's but they've had @ good run -- could only have gone one more round, which is @ creditable showing for any year. x x x x - BROOKLIN Concretes nosed out Elmvale 3-2, at Brooklin last night, first game of their OASA Intermediate "C" South- ern Ontario finals. The Elmvale club will be tough before the series is over. Second game of this set is booked for Saturday afternoon at four o'clock, in Elmvale. Should a third game be required, and this is certainly possible, it will likely be played In Newmarket or Aurora, about Tuesday of next week. Ron Jones pitched the win for Brooklin last night, match- ing "Mac" McHugh, the Elmvale sling-shotter, with 11 strike- out victims apiece. A couple of errors made the difference -- with Brooklin getting their hits behind the errors -- to make the most of their chances. x x x x ' OSHAWA GENERALS opened their 1964-65 campaign last night with an impressive 5-1 victory over Toronto Marl- boros. With more than helf of last year's Memorial Cup championship squad over the age-limit for this year, the Mar- lies, while still formidable, are*eertainly not going to be the terror of the Junior "A" OHA circuit, that they were last season. Team captain Danny O'Shea paced the Generals with four goals, the first right from the opening faceoff -- which got their fans in a jubilant, cheering mood, real early in the fray. Generals have a heavy exhibition session ahead of them, for the next few days, for what should provide a stiff warm-up for the schedule opener. Oshawa plays another exhibition contest tonight, in the Liftlock City and the Peter- borough Juniors will return the compliment, back at Bow- manville Arena on Sunday night. Next Tuesday, at Toronto's "Bell Arena" -- Generals will play their return exhibition game with the Marlies. x x x 4 STORIE PARK Midgets staged one big seven-run splurge last night, to take the first game of the Oshawa Minor Soft- ball Assoc, Midget League championship finals, against Con- naught Park. Second game of the series goes on Sunday af- ternoon at Connaught Park, three o'clock and the balance of the 3-out-of-5 series will be played at Alexandra Park, with the third game on Monday night, at 6:30 o'clock and the fourth game, if necessary, on Tuesday night, same time. x x x x OSHAWA HAWKEYES are hoping for a banner turnout, this Saturday morning at Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium, 10:30 o'clock;-when--theyplay_their final home game of the Ontario Junior Football Conference schedule, against Burling- ton Braves. Ted Napiorkowski suffered a broken leg early in the season and the "Hawkeyes" are making Saturday morning's game a "'benefit" for '"'Napper". On top of this special feature -- the Hawkeyes can grab off a playoff berth with a win over Burlington, so all added up, it. makes the game here Saturday morning a feature attraction. St. Thomas Memorials elimin- ated Oshawa Tony's from the Ontario Amateur Softball Asso- ciation Senior A "Southern On- tario Finals" last night with a 43 triumph in St. Thomas. The Memorials won the first game of the best 3-of-5 series here at Alexandra Park last Saturday by a 7-2 score. St. Thomas wasted little time getting on the scoresheet in this ¢ontest as they built up a 3-0 lead in the first inning on three hits. John Marcinko opened the inning with a walk and ad- vanced when Ralph Paterson faced a sigle past Oshawa's pitcher Bob Grier. However, Marcinko was thrown out try- ing to score on a single by Allie Almast. Paterson came in to score on a fielder's choice and two more runs crossed the plate on another fielder's choice and a single by Ken Fortey.
