Defending winners of the Intermediate "C" OASA title five times since 1957, the Northern Ontario rep- resentatives from Capreol made a great bid to retain their lau- rels. They nosed out Brooklin 21 in the first game of the series, on Saturday night but Brooklin came back early Sun-'ed day afternoon to tie the set in| another thirller, this one 3-1. Bob Petch slashed a liner back through the middie, that struck Bevilacqua .on the chest and Gibson scored. Bill Cornish's single in the fifth was the only other safety the Capreol pitcher gave up in this game. Bob Campbell was even more impressive from a 'strikeout viewpoint, fanning a total of 19 batters and not giving up a single walk, Capreol got their first run in the opening frame, when Doug White was safe on an infield error, after two out. Glen Till, first batter for the home- sters in the fourth, smashed one to deep centre, for a homer and 3-0 margin. Although having only four strikeouts: Ron Jones gave up only three scattered singles in the first seven frames and issued just two walks. Batting in the top of the 8th, Jones was struck on the elbow with a fast pitch. In the next half of the inning, he was not as effective and three-straight hits, plus an error throw to third, from the outfield, gave Capreol their run. But with two on and nobody out, Bob Campbell came in to pitch and struck out three batters in succession, to save the situa- tion. Capreol got their 7th hit of the game, but Norm Giroux's single, to open the 9th bu! the next three batters grounded to the infield, to end the game. In winning the deciding game, Campbell gave up five hits and Brooklin collected six, for their 4-2 triumph and championship honors. Campbell claimed 35 strikeouts in 20 innings. Brooklin started out in great style as Campbell fanned the first three Capreol batters then the homesters came up with a two-run lead in their first frame. Bil Cornish drew a walk with one out, advanced on Don Ferguson's sacrifice then scored on Glen Till's hit into centre. He went to second on the throw-in and scored himself when Vern Ferguson also singled to the outfield. The nip-and-tuck battle stayed at 2-0 until the sixth inning, with both pitchers performing in great style. With one out in this inning, Norm Giroux doubled. Phil DelPapa singled to score Giroux and he ad- vanced on the throw-in, then scored on Doug White's single, to tie the score at 2-2.
