The first day at a new school was always hard, his father had told him, but he would meet new friends, and soon be having fun. If this were true, then why had his sis- ter cried, and why did his father tell them to be courageous and) remember God would be with them. He could see a big grey build- ing with a fence around it. He could see people trying to break through the fence. They were angry. He wondered if they, like his sister, were angry that school was starting and the holi- days were gone. As they walk- ed closer, he saw that the fence 'wasn't a real fence, but a fence of soldiers and policemen with guns and sticks. Suddenly someone. in the crowd shouted and everyone turned towards them. Then as if they had stepped out of the air, soldiers were surrounding his whole family, and rushing them into the building.
