University of Waterloo Shield --Junior Mathematics Team -- Eric Hooey, Douglas Yonson, Larry Yanch, gy school honor grad- pation mas : Mary Archer, Carolyn Baron, William Braiden, Carol Brooks, 250 Baton Twirlers Here About 250 baton twirlers from ail sections of Ontario competed in Oshawa recently, The Motor City Baton Twirling Contest held at the O'Neill Col- legiate and Vocational Institute drew entries from Ottawa, Peterborough, Kitchener, Galt, Guelph, London, Hamilton, St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Pontiac, Michigan, The event which lasted all day, featured Fancy Drill Corps, Dance Twirl, Team Twirl and Military Marching in the morning. In the afternoon Fancy Strutt, Solos, Duets and Championships were run in the main audi- torlum. The contest ended with the Advanced Solo first place winners competing for Major- ette of the Day. Trophies were won by: Bon- nie Jane Powell (Hamilton), Ju- venile Majorette of the Day; Dianne Shaw (Oshawa), Junior Majorette of the Day; Judy Dearborne (St. Catharines) Sen- lor Majorette of the Day. The contest endde with the advanced local twirlers compet- ing for Miss Majorette of Osh- awa, won by Dianne Shaw, 14, with Patsy Blake, 12 (Bowman- ville) and Brenda Henning (Bowmanville), as runners up. The main competition was held in the OCVI Auditorium, where youngsters, 5 to 19, per- formed, while Dance Twirls were held in the Girls' Gym.
