EASTERN ONTARIO GROUP The EOBA proved a very ex- cellent test for the Oshawa teams and certainly gave the local boys plenty of baseball of a high calibre. In league action, Oshawa Tykes tied with Peter- borough for first place and the Pee Wees came out on top in their section. In EOBA playdowns, Oshawa came first in three of the six classifications, to gain eligibility for the Ontarié Baseball Assoc- iation playdowns. Tykes quali- fied by defeating Belleville and Peterborough, the Juveniles by defeating Peterborough and the Juniors by defeating Belleville. In other classifications, the Pee Wees, Bantams and Midgets lost in their attempts to ad- vance. When the OBA playdowns got under way, the Tykes went all Juveniles lost out to Hamilton while the juniors lost to St ; Catharines. DID WELL IN TOURNEYS During the season, there were a number of tournaments throughout the province -and Oshawa did fairly well. The Pee Wees won the Zone F1 and Dis- trict F Legion tournaments and advanced to the Provincial Tournament at Orillia. This was ok first time an Oshawa team a at Niagara Falls and the CNE were also entered by the Pee Wees. The Juveniles lost out in their bid at Maple Leaf Stadium to represent this city at the World Championships, held at Johns- town, Penna. for boys under 20- years-of-age. However, since this was the first time Oshawa |has had Juvenile baseball in a number of years, they .cer- tainly gave a good account of themselves. The Juniors entered a tourna- ment in St. Catharines and were defeated in the second round.
