Dennis Gibson is to see the club doctor today. It appears he has a nervous condi- tion and what has pin-pointed the seriousness'of this is the fact that he has lost some 15 pounds in the past few weeks. If the "Doc" thinks Gibson is unfit for action, he may order a couple of weeks' rest. It could be that the Generals' net- minder is finding the tension too much. He is likely too young to have "goalie's ulcers" as yet. If the medical checkup sidelines Gibson, then the club will have to use either Ian Young or Duncan Wilson, both members of the Generals' affiliate club, Whitby Dunlops, of the Junior "B" Metro League. They are allowed three games each, in high- er ranks, as of January 1, after which they must "stay up". x x. = x LOU ANGOTTI, the 26-year-old rookie centre of New York Rangers has come up with an observation, which a lot of hockey fans will certainly endorse. He says there are few "'clean goals" scored in the NHL and one reason is. that many pros have difficulty executing fundamental moves. "By clean goals, I mean those that are scored on clear-cut plays, with finesse in stick-handling and shooting, in other words" -- is the way he put it. He added most goals are scored from scrambles, blue-line slapshots or on screen plays and added the reason for the general lack of finesse can be traced to the amateur system. He said the amateurs play 80 many games in one season that they never have enough time to practise and learn the fundamentals and so they move into pro ranks without the benefit of this early train- ing. We think Angotti could have added that it's a vicious cycle. We agree with his ideas but we'd also like to point out that not. only do the young amateurs copy the style of NHL players they watch -- but with the Junior teams almost BAFFLES 'BLONDE BOMBER' of Chicago Black Hawks in a game at Toronto last night.
