Every spare patch of wall was plas- tered with signs, each declar- ing a different candidate as the, only one worth voting for. | Wednesday highlighted the) week, as an assembly was call- ed so the somewhat petrified candidates could state their platforms. By Friday, voting day, election fervor and ten-| 'sion were at their highest. Ex-| cited students held their breath) during the final announcements. Cries of joy and sorrow rose with this announcement: Presi- dent, Andrew Goode; vice-presi- dent, Hugh Laurence and secre- tary, Sarah Inkpen. The Grade 12 girls are eager- ly looking forward to their tour of the Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto on Jan, 21. Mrs.! Nichol, the girl's health teach-| er, has arranged this tour to provide an opportunity for the girls to see first hand many situations which have been hitherto only theoretical, not practical. Our present student council has innovated a new. office- social convener. Elections for this office were held Jan. 20. The duties of the social con- vener will not be light. The council is looking for a re- sponsible Henry student in| Grade 11 or 12 for this de- manding office. The candidates were Judy Mathieson and Herb) Grey. We. have had a Bookmobile visiting the school. Students had the opportunity of buying a great variety of paperback books. The school proceeds of approximately $65 will be used to lessen the expense of the. a trip to Stratford next all. On Jan, 14, Henry's junior, bantam, and senior boys' teams played basketball, The juniors were defeated at St. Berna- dette School 57-28. The bantams defeated Clarke 22-8. The sen- er were defeated at Clarke Sock Hops Are Popular By VELVA VOOGJARV WHITBY ~-- Activities at Anderson High School are now in full swing following the holi- day lull. Among these are the noon-hour sock hops in the gym backed and supervised by the members of the student council, A colorful "Romper Room" setting provided the background for the first dance of the year, held on Friday evening. It was very well attended, with MCWL) as usual presenting a fine selec- tion of the top hits and dis- tributing copies of ASHS Top Ten, our own hit parade chart, The film version of Shake- speare"s 'Julius Caesar' was shown in the Anderson gym on the first Friday of the new term. This was the second such movie brought to the school for the benefit of the students, with) "The Tale of Two Cities" being resented earlier during ovember. Parents were given an op- portunity to discuss with the| teachers their children's pro-| gress and difficulties on Wed- nesday afternoon and Svening | when 'Parents' Day' was held at the school. The student re-| ceptionists deserve to be com-| mended on their aid in making| this program proceed smooth- ly and on schedule. As Feb. 5 rapidly approaches, | the semi-formal committee) under the chairmanship of! Carolyn Evans is busily prepar- ing for the social highlight of the. school year. "'Ports of Call" has been chosen as this year's theme and this event prom- ises to be bigger and better than ever, so don't miss it.
