The team has been training for the past couple of months after school on the third floor. The boys from O'Neill drove up in the "big bus" with) their coach, Mr. Banks. The|% girls went with Mr. Wiley, 4 member of the teaching staff. When the team arrived at the Gardens they were escorted to the dressing rooms. Mr. Banks had the team "jog" for their usual warm up and get the feel of the wooden track. To those who had run on the track in 1964 it was just "old stuff" but} for quite a few members of the) team it was a new experience. They soon found out that run- ning indoors is a bit harder -- your feet burn, your mouth dries. quickly and you perspire easily | RELAY, SIXTH The O'Neill girls' relay team consisting of Mary Southwell, Nancy Willson, Carol Prest and Sharyn Kent, placed sixth out of! the 16 girls' teams competing.) The girls knocked a second off their previous time, running) 9 the 2% lap relay in 41 seconds At this meet the girls wore their new track uniforms that) were designed and made by Mrs. Banks. The suits consist of shorts and a top made out of bright yellow terrycloth.! trimmed with dark green braid and school crests The boys of O'Neill also put up a good show. Grant Osborne ran the boys two mile run in nine minutes and 46 seconds Larry Hicks placed fourth in his one mile run. The boys relay team composed of Eric Farn-| combe, Gary Edgar Stones and John placed third in their relay heat The team was supported throughout the evening by the) shouts of their chaperone-teach-|© ers, Mrs. Banks, Miss Knepflar Miss Salter and Mr. Wiley. Around 10.30 p.m. at the close of an exciting meet, the tired, hungry, happy team begged/° Mr. Banks to lead them to the nearest restaurant. Most of the, kids were starved because the hadn't eaten anything lunch.
