Dotter of Port- land, Ore., head of the depart- ment of radiology at the Uni- versity of Oregon, said in an interview here Friday that the treatment is simple, quick and inexpensive. The treatment consists of punching a hole through the cheesy material that forms in the arteries in older persons. These deposits block major arteries, cutting off the blood supply to an arm, a leg or a kidney. A medical tool called a catheter is used in the treat- ment. Dr. Dotter described the tech- nique at a symposium of the Vancouver Heart Association, an organization of heart spe- cialists and cardia surgeons. Operation Successful TORONTO (CP) -- Sixteen- month-old Linda Rackman of Burlington, Ont., went home Friday to attempt to lead a normal life following an opera- tion to repair reversed arteries in her heart. Blood usually flows to the lungs from the heart to collect fresh oxygen, but Linda's arter- ies were reversed and her blood flowed directly into the circulatory system. The small amount of blood that was even- tually oxygenated did not cir- culate through her body. Deprived of this oxygen, doc- tors said, she was slowly dying.
