Coffee Can Bring Unwanted Reaction By JOSEPH MOLNER, M.D. Dear Dr. Molner: Can the daily drinking of too much cof- fee create a kidney ailment?-- MRS. A.R. 1 thought I answered this question a little while ago, but maybe I didn't make it clear. (And this won't be the first time that somebody has gone back to the doctor and. said, "I thought I understood what you said, but now I'm not sure."') Anyway, coffee will not dam- | age the kidneys. Coffee may, in some amounts and for some people, have other unwanted ef- fects, but it won't harm kidneys. Coffee will, however, act as a diuretic, meaning that it speeds up the removal of fluid from the body; the kidneys act oftener. Naturally the caffein, which is a stimulant, can cause sleep- lessness, or rapid heart beat, or a sensation of nervous tension if you get more of it than con- forms to your physical or nerv- ous system. These are perfectly good reasons for not consuming more caffein than you can handle. Dear Dr. Molner: I take med- icine for high blood pressure. But I have so much dizziness, and have had a couple of falls. I am 70. What can I do about this dizziness?--MRS. G.C. Some of the medications for reducing blood pressure can cause dizziness, especially if the pressure is reduced too much. Many older persons actually need a pressure higher than "normal" to meet their physio- logical needs, and to be com- fortable. Hence a regulation of your daily dosage may correct the annoyance of these dizzy spells, There may also be other causes for your dizziness. You should mention this symptom to your doctor. Dear Dr. Molner: For the last few weeks I have been awak- ened around three o'clock in the morning with a bad case of in- digestion and heartburn. I try to avoid rich foods and sweets. I eat dinner before six o'clock and go to bed at a rea- sonable time. I have a small hernia but it has never bothered me. What foods could I eat and what time should I eat dinner to avoid this?7--MRS, J.C.W. This discomfort: in the wee / OPERATOR, GET ME THE ADVERTISING DEPARTMENT OF TELEVISION STATION KKTV! ERG Saat DIATTIAMMOUSIATT} THE OSHAWA TIMES, 19 Monday, February 15, 1965 BRIDGE By B. JAY BECKER (Top record-holder in Masters' individuel Championship Play) FAMOUS HANDS South dealer, £ North-South vulnerable, -- ve Opening lead -- ace of hearis, This fascinating hand oc- curred in the match between Great Britain and the United States during the world cham- greg played in New York At the first table, where the British held the North-South cards, South became declarer at five diamonds doubled. West (Eric Mutray) led the ace of _|hearts and then shifted to the three of spade$ When East (Charles Coon) won. the trick with the jack, he realized that Murray -- by un- derleading the A-K -- was angl- ing for a ruff. It was not diffi- cult to figure out that West was void of clubs, so Coon rturned a club which Murray ruffed. Murray then led the five of spades to the queen and got an- other ruff. As a result of this sparkling defence, the British declrarer unexpectedly found himself down three -- 800 points. At the second table, where Robert Nail and Lew Mathe, playing weak two bids, were re- spectively North-South for the American team, the bidding went: Rs 2 3@ 3 4@ rt Dbis 33 Dhle * The British West became de- clarer at four spades doubled and Nail made the best open- ing lead of a trump. Declarer took the spade in dummy with the queen and led the jack of diamonds. South won with the ace and returned the nine of hearts. The queen lost to the king and North played another trump. Declarer in dummy and to win the trick showed out. North shifted to the king of clubs, and while declarer was able to ruff a heart and a dia- mond in dummy, he eventually lost another diamond trick to go down one -- 100 points. So the United States team gained 900 points on the deal as a result of good defence at both | |tables. | SALLY'S SALLIES AFTER 6 P.M. e SP e Porterhouse Steak 1.25 OPEN NIGHTS CARMICHAEL'S BAR-B-0 Park Road $., 723-0907 "MILL STREET" VARIETY STORE MILL & OXFORD STS.
