Eastwood, chairman of the American Foot- ball Coaches Association. Dr. Eastwood says deaths rose to 45 in 1964 from 24 in 1963, Most of the deaths (27) could be traced to traumatic blows while the others came from in- direct causes, including heart failure, heat stroke and infec- tion, the professor said. Twenty-one of the traumatic deaths were suffered in high school games, three in college, two in sandlot play and one by a professional athlete, East- wood said.
