18 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Seturdey, February 20, 1965 Brando Awarded Custody, Kashfi Curses Court By JAMES BACON SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) From the strife of one of Holly- wood's stormier marriages to the tranquillity of farm life in Illinois. This is the change of worlds awaiting the six-year-old son of Marlon Brando and Anna Kashfi, following a court ruling Thursday at the end of one of filmdom's longest custody bat- Miss Kashfi exploded at the decision which gave Brando temporary custody of Christian Devi on condition that he be raised by Brando's elder sister, Mrs. Franees Loving, in Mun- delein, Ill. Miss Kashfi stormed out of the courtroom, banging doors, and outside the courthouse told @ newspaper man: "This baby is' my whole life, 'I bore him. Where in the hell was Marlon' Brando when the child was being brought up? "And now a judge gives him to a woman I don't even know. Is this justice?" 'WHOLE DAMN COURT' The actress, her eyes. dark, added: : "T am not through fighting. I will subpoena the judge and whole --damn court." Mrs. Loving testified at the five-day trial. She's active in the Parents-Teachers Associa- tion and her husband has been president of the local board of education. He's an instructor at the Chicago Art Institute. Brando not only agreed to the move but actually suggested it to Superior Judge Laurence Rit- tenbrand. "JT don't want my son to grow up in the unreal world that is Hollywood. I don't want him to have to live up to the sensa- tionalized image of his father." IN THE NUDE The trial was punctuated by spicy testimony. Charges of un- Packers Urged: 'Stop Deception' OTTAWA (CP)--The 'Consum- ers' Association of Canada has praised a government decision to request all meat packers to take steps to remove "'any ele- ment of deception" existing in their present methods of pack- aging bacon. : Mrs. A. F. W. Plumptre, na- tional president of the associa- tion, said in a statement Friday that the CAC is 'delighted' to learn of the decision from the food and drug directorate. "For a number of years, CAC has considered that in many instances, bacon is sold in pack- ages which are deceptive and has requested the government that action be taken to ensure that bacon is sold in packages which reveal to consumers one slice of bacon at the time of purchase." Mrs. Plumptre said the asso- ciation hoped the meat packing industry would co-operate and change the packages where necessary as requested by the food and drug directorate. "All consumers will welcome the opportunity to buy bacon in packages which show them the actual proportion of lean to fat in a slice of bacon." named nude bed partners were hurled by both sides. Brando himself declared that he married Miss Kashfi in 1958 only 'because she was with child and I wanted to give the a proper beginning in life." e also said that a five-year- old son by his present mate, Mexican actress Movita, was conceived before marriage. And that he has an illegitimate son, now two, by Tarita, the Tahi- tian beauty who was his co-star in Mutiny on. the Bounty. Brando admitted that he had made mistakes in his life but "three beautiful sons derived from those mistakes, so I guess you can't call them mistakes."
