MOLNER, MD Dear Dr. Molner: Please ex- plain hemorrhoids and_ piles, The door-to-door salesman who sold me a patent medicine said that since I had no pain I must have piles. I have no indication of prostate trouble. I am quite an old man, but very stout.-- My friend, somebody has been deceiving you--and you aren't alone. There are but few among us, if any, who haven't been deceived a good many times in our lives. [-¥e been fooled, and sometimes it cost me money, and sometimes it hurt my feel- ings, and sometimes it bruised my pride. It happens to all of as. Medicine Salesmen Sometimes Deceive Your mention of prostate trouble makes me think that the person who sold you the medicine for piles gave you some fancy talk that doesn't mean anything. Prostate trouble involves a muscular gland which has (among other duties) something to do with passing urine. Piles (hemorrhoids is another name for the same thing) involves the rectum. They are more or less in the same territory in the body. But otherwise they have nothing in common. I'm sure that the . medicine vendor would have told you that if you DID have pain it must be piles. JAY BECKER (Top record-holder im Masters' \Individuel Chompionship Play) 2 te It's not really easy out how South made tricks in this hand, Not only that, but he six notrump. Here's came about. South was Norman Kay Merchantville, |N. J., pla with the late and great Sildor of Philadelphia, Pa. deal occurred during the nation- al Open Pair Championship, which they won when the event was played in St. Louis in 1063. West led a diamond and Kay won it in dummy with the nine, East's play of the eight per- suaded declarer that West was long in diamonds and therefore probably short in hearts. Backing his judgment, Kay pleyed the nine of hearts at trick two and finessed when East followed low. He thenled a | Lo to the king, West showing out. By this time things were going so smoothly that Kay gave up all thought of taking a club fin- esse, He had been lucky enough to get a diamond lead, instead of a spade, and also had handl- ed the hearts in the best possible style. So rather than jeopardize these clear-cut advantages, he ---- the A-K of clubs. en West unexpectedly dropped the queen on the king, Kay realized that he could not be stopped now from making 12 tricks. He had a surefire endplay coming up against East. He cashed the jack of clubs and the A-K of diamonds, fore- ing East to relinquish two spades, since he could not af- fod to part with either a heart or a clut, Kay then led a spade to the ace and exited from dummy with a club. East was forced to win the nine with the ten, and now had to return a heart from the J-8-7 into dummy's A-Q-10. So Kay made six notrump as a result of this series of plays and earned himself a top score. g223s eeeks Ee # MOON DUSTS EARTH Scientists believe that a ton or more of dust from the moon falls on the earth every day. For various reasons, these veins can become chronically swol- Hen. Sometimes they cause itch- ing. Sometimes they are pain- ful. Sometimes they break open and bleed, especially after a difficult movement. Whether you do hurt or don't hurt is not the, main question. Some do and some don't. You say you are "quite old." Being "very stout'? may or may not have anything to do with the problem, but hour age does. If you were in your 30's or sell you his product. 40's or 60's, I'd recommend surgery to remove the piles or swollen veins, if they are really bothering you. But since you are "quite old," I suggest, un- less you are having a great deal of trouble, some lesser treatment to keep you comfort- able. In your case, there is no pain. But the really important question is this: What is troubl- ing you? Is it piles? Or is it something else? Rather than spend any more money on pat- ent medicine, have a doctor see what is wrong, if anything, and tell you what to do about it. If is IS_ piles, he'll tell you what to do. If it's something else, he'll tell you, \ ERNIE CAY /,, DOORS - SASH and ROOFING FREE DELIVERY | "It it's LUMBER, eall our NUMBER" PHONE 725-1121 53 ALBERT ST.
