Rete diewtl IEG ites Canada Tops U.S. Shares First Place By ROD CURRIE TAM) , Finland (CP)-- The time for experimenting is almost over for Canada's world team in the chase for the title now held by Russia. "You can't go on experiment- forever," said Canadian coach Gord Simpson after his squad defeated the United States 5-2 Monday night and pulled even with Russia and lovakia in the world hockey tournament. Simpson was disappointed the Canadians didn't run up the score, as the Czechs did in blanking the Americans 12-0 last Saturday. The U.S., however, played a much better game against the Canadians and out- shot them 39-35. Simpson said some of his players, like Gary Aldcorn of Winnipeg, with one goal and an assist, and Roger Bourbonnais of Riviere Qui Barre, Alta., without a point in three games, are not showing their real po- tential. The Canadian team is made up of seven players from Win- nipeg Maroons, 1964 Allan Cup champions, and nine from last year's national team that fin- ished fourth in the Olympics, Simpson feels the team needs "more togetherness on the ice." "Our timing and passing are still a bit off," Simpson said, "We still need more experience together. We experimented with new lines against the Americans and I want to work on them again, But you can't go on ex- perimenting forever," The way the draw was set up, Simpson has had several chances to try out new combi- nations against the pushovers. None of the top four countries faced any of its chief rivals in the first' three rounds of the eight - country, round - robin championship, 'Motor City' Squad Still Shares Sixth The local Motor City team came up with a strong team effort at Plantation Bowl on Saturday and won a hard-earn- ed 3-2 decision, over the strong Willow Bowl team. The result left Motor City, Bayview Bow! and Tuxedo Junc- tion all tied for the last playoff spot, with 65 points each, with five weeks remaining in the schedule. Willow Bowl is only three points ahead of these three teams in fifth spot. Motor City rolled a five-game team score of 6049 for three points, com- pared to 6018 for two points for Willow. The first game was taken by Motor City, 1209-to-1085, Willow came back to take the second game 1283-to-1135. Motor City took the third game 1223-to-1187, in the closest action of the day. Willow again came back, to take the fourth game 1324-to- 1222 and then Motor City took the deciding game, by a deci- Sel Himes, who has of late come into his own, bowled a fine five-game total of 1279, made up of games of 254, 235, 260, 301 and 229. Rundie 518, Bar NHL By ROD CURRIE TAMPERE, Finland (CP)--J. F. (Bunny) Ahearne, president of the International Ice Hockey Federation, said Sunday his or- ganization will not allow Cana- dian professionals to play on DHF-controlled ice in Europe or even conduct a hockey school as some National Hockey League players planned to do in Austria late in the spring. Ahearne said that the ban against professionals on ice con- trolled by the ITHF in Europe applies to."the performance by professional hockey players in any way, shape or form." Former NHL player Larry Regan of Ottawa had planned to bring six NHL players--three from Detroit Red Wings and three from Toronto Maple Leafs to run a hockey clinic for 16 to 18 days at Innsbruck, Austria, to show Europeans how Cana- dian pros play the game. : But the ITHF congress unani- mously decided Friday that any ice stadium that permits pro- fessional performances would be barred from use for ITHF gomes. The vote came after the Aus- trian Hockey Federation ap- pealed to the international body for support in opposition to Regan's plan to conduct the school. GIVEN FULL SUPPORT "The Austrian Federation was 100 per cent against it and when they appealed to the inter- national congress we gave them our full support,' Ahearne said Sunday in an interview.
