The ensign got its battle scar Sunday when someone tried to burn it. A caller with a torch fled into the darkness before po- lice could be summoned. February 16, the day after the new Canadian flag was raised officially on flagpoles across the country, someone pulled the Weatherall's ensign to the ground and left it lying in the snow. Monday night the terror cam- paign against the Weatherall ensign got uglier. An anony- mous telephone caller threat- ened to burn their home to the ground unless the ensign was taken down. At 2 a.m. Tuesday the family was awakened by firemen who had been sent to their home when someone turned in a false alarm. The reaction of John and Bar- bara Weatherall, both 76, to all this is shock and bewilderment. SHE'S FRIGHTENED Mrs. Weatherall, who has a weak heart, said in an interview Tuesday she was frightened by the caller who threatened to burn their house down. "7 was really afraid last night. I didn't know whether to get undressed when I went to bed or what." But she said she and her hus-j band could not accept the new Canadian flag. "1 just feel I'd be letting down my two boys who are ly- ing in their graves over there, | # if I didn't fly the ensign." Mrs. Weatherall's boys Walter and Bobby died in the Second World War. Bobby, a flying of- ficer in the RCAF, was killed in France in May, 1944. He was). 24. Bobby's brother Walter, 30, a member of the Royal Cana- dian Engineers, disappeared during action four months later. His body was never found. Some people disagree with "Sine", not many miss his _ twice daily assault on injustice, hypocrisy and anything else that comes into the sites of his news blunderbuss. Like the best baseball umpire, Sinclair calis 'em as he sees 'em and if toes are trod on. . . well, that's life. The comment you hear most about Sinclair is "I can't afford to miss him be- cause | never know what he's going to do next." He's heard at 11:50 a.m. and 5:50 p.m. (as if didn't know) -- and with his "Let's Be Personal" at 11:45 a.m. and "Show Busi- ness" at 5:45 p.m. CFRRE 21010 ONTARIO'S FAMILY STATION tapped.
