OSBORNE SPIERS AJAX -- Following a lengthy sickness the death occurred March 11 of Edith Lockhart, be loved wife of the late Osborne Spiers. A daughter of the late Mr jand Mrs. James Lockhart, the deceased was born in Toronto and was married in Galt in 1902 A resident of Galt until four years ago, when she came to live with her daughter at 154 was a member of the Church of England. Very active in many philanthropic projects, she was a life member of the ladies' aux- iliary in Galt, a member of the Red Cross and of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire. Predeceased by her husband in 1949, Mrs. Spiers is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Fryer (Elizabeth) of Vancouver and Mrs. §. John Purdy (Joan) of Ajax. The funeral service will be held at the McEachnie Funeral Home, Pickering, at 12 noon March 13. Interment will be in Young Memorial Chapel, Galt. STUART BALL UXBRIDGE--Active in muni- cipal life in Ontario County for many years, 'Stuart Samuel Ball died Mar, 5 at the Ux- bridge Cottage Hospital. He hrad been sick for two months. The funeral service was held Mar. 8 followed by interment in Uxbridge Cemetery Mr. Ball was a son of the late Samuel and Hannah Ball and was born May 25, 1896 at Quaker Hill. He was active in community life having held positions as {councillor and reeve of Ux- bridge Township for many years. Until his illness, he was deputy reeve of Uxbridge: Town. During the First World War he served in England as a mem- ber of the Second Central On- tario Regiment and the 8th Reserve. : Predeceased by his wife, the former Irene Cleland, in 1954, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Fred Wilson of Uxbridge and Mrs. Rodney Baker of Blackwater and a son Lioyd of Quaker Hill. There are 17 grand- children, three sisters and three brothers. MRS. EMMA JANE TRICK The funeral service for Mrs. Emma Jane Trick, of Oshawa, who died Mar. 9 at the Oshawa feneral Hospital in her 91st year, was held Friday at the Armstrong Funeral Home. Rev. H. Dyck, of Albert Street United Church, conducted the service and interment was in Union Cemetery, Oshawa. The pallbearers were: Irwin Trick James Hedger, Robert Hicks, Roy Yeo and Ronald Babcock. ARTHUR WILLIAM READ The death of Arthur William Read occurred today at the Glencedars Nursing Home, Columbus, after a two-year-long illness. He formerly resided at --|123 Gibbons street and was in his 95th year. He was born and educated in London, England. He gained a degree in chemistry, The deceased worked for many years as a mecHanic at the Toronto Daily Star until his retirement in 1945. Mr. Read was a member of Westmount United Church and of the Royal Order of Moose. In 1923 he married the for- mer Blanche Delsey in Toron- to. He had lived in both Toronto and Oshawa Mr. Read is survived by his wife and three daughters,Mrs. George .Parkin (Emma), Mrs. Sydney Boneham (Ellen), and Mrs. John Collins (Mary), all of Oshawa. The remains are at the Arm- strony Funeral Home for the funeral service in the chapel Monday. Rev. Frank.
