nh li li att Srm ers 2a et ee g THE OOHAWA TIMES, Seturdey, Apri 24, 1965 SPORTS MENU By Geo. H. Campbell SPORTS EDITOR verything From Soup To Nuts' SUMMER! "Jed" Wilson reports in that his PPP ny foro A 'Aces Juvenile softball club is holding their first workout, at Nipigon Park, on Monday evening, at six o'clock and it's an "open invitation" -- all eligible players are welcome ... WORD 18 OUT that there will be about four or five Juvenile softball teams operating this season, which is good news, Oshawa Minor Softball Association has produced a lot of great talent in recent years and it's nice to know that they now have enough pitchers scattered around the city to encourage three or more entries... All other teams holding workouts are invited to use this medium to announce the time and place. ROCHESTER AMERICANS blanked Hershey Bears 8-3 last night, a far cry from their overtime division in the first me of the series, " The series now moves into Hershey but even though it may not prove a clean sweep, the Amerks are strongly favored to win The Calder Cup and the playoff title, STANLEY CUP chatter out of Chicago is pretty much to the expected pattern, Billy Reay points out that if his team keeps up the good work, the series will go seven games--and his Black Hawks will win it. 'Toe' Blake points out that some of his team were not_up to scratch in their last outing but if they return to top form, he'll go back to Montreal with a 3-1 lead. It all very interesting -- but also somewhat con- fusing. If a neutral observer checks over the statistics for the last three games, he gets convinced that anything can still happen -- and knowing Stanley Cup playoffs, it prob- ably will! SPORTS SHORTS--Atlanta Crackers give Toronto base- ball fans their "home opener' today but if the Crackers continue that winning streak they've been enjoying, then Toronto ball fans are in for a sad beginning ... JOHNNY PODRES made a glorious return to full-time pitching 'action last night when he pitched a 4-0 shutout win for Dodgers, over the Phillies .. . METS nipped Giants 9-8 in an 11-inning tilt and Houston won out over Pirates 4-3 in 12 innings .. . DANNY CATER hit a two-run homer to pace Chicago White Sox to their 5-3 win over Washington Senators, In other AL action, Minnesota Twins nipped Detroit Tigers 8-6; Cleveland Indians downed Kansas City 6-2 and Orioles won over Bos- ton 4-2...
