STEADY GOES IT as little girl applies pale pink junior By JOAN O'SULLIVAN Daddy may get all the hugs and kisses and flirtatious glances, but who does a little girl long to be like? Mother! Mom's the model she copies when she clip-clops about the house in high-heeled shoes, her pert face all but hidden by a cast-off Easter bonnet -- it's Mom's, of course--a huge hand- bag bulging with blocks, puzzle pieces and other treasures swinging from her arm, HELP THE GAME Yes, copy-catting's fun for a youngster, It's even more fun if she has junior-styled groom-| ing aids to help along her favorite game of make-believe. Ever watch a little girl look- ing at herself in a mirror? Get her a mirror of her own and you'll enjoy it more than she will. MAKES FACES or fantastically surprised. Keep the camera ready, aim- ed and loaded when she's check- ing her reflection. You'll get pic- tures: you'll prize ~-.there's no doubt about it. A little girl can look in the mirror while she brushes her hair, It may be fun but it's also training in good grooming, Mom. She can also use that mirror while she applies lipstick. It's not the real McCoy, of course, but a very light pink and pretty shade for just pretending. Does she suck her thumb or nibble her nails? | All the scolding in the world, won't break these habits. They're also valuable in teaching youngsters beauty basics at any early age. Sault Teenager To Sing Duets With Hope, Borge TORONTO (CP) -- A ninth-| grader from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., will sing duets with Bob Hope and Victor Borge at the Canadian National Exhibition grandstand show this year. Lori Kaye, 15, will do three numbers in each show, includ- ing two she wrote herself. "This youngster has great po- tential for stardom," says Jack Arthur, executive producer of the Aug. 20-Sept. 6 show. "She could be another Teresa Brewer. She has the same big- voice style as Teresa." Lori was born in Auburn, N.Y., one of three children of Mr, and Mrs. David Cartner. She made her first television ap- pearance at 10 in Bermuda, singing her own songs. Her father now is musical di- rector of CKCY Sault Ste. Ma- rie. The wife of the radio sta- tion's owner, Al Bestall, redis- covered her there. "Mrs. Bestall kept bugging her husband to hear me," Lori says. "But he thought I was just another singer. Then she made a tape of my singing and she hung this around her husband's desk for three weeks until he took time to hear it." Mr. Bestall sent the tape to olumbia Records' Nashville, Tenn.,. office, and now Lori has a contract with them.
