RYAN Associated Press News Analyst Two of the most spectacular revolutionists of their time have vanished behind curtains of im- penetrable revolutionary in- trigue. What happened to Maj. Er- nesto (Che) Guevara, strategist of Fidel Castro's rise to power and hero to Latin America's violent young rebels? What happened to Ahmed Ben Bella, architect of revolution in Algeria and idol of the African left? A tantalizing but tenuous link exists between the two myster- fes. The Guevara puzzle seems to have grown out of the back- world communism's|involved in world communism's wash of split. The Ben Bella disappear- ance has thrust itself into that|Fidel quarrel. Castro has been vague about Guevara. The new Algerian re-|America. gime indicates Ben Bella is awaiting trial, But you can pick your own rumor. According to some of them: Guevara was killed in the Dominican Republic revolu- tion; has died of his ailments (he suffered from asthma); Color TV Sets Will Be Set For CBC's Debut In 1967 TORONTO (CP) -- Prospects for selling color television sets in Canada appear brighter than any hues that will appear on the picture tube. Although Canadian TV net-| works won't be getting into color transmissions until 1967, increasing use of color by United States channels picked up in populous border cities is) offering a chance for the indus- ri to jump ahead, officials pre- t. In fact some say, supply may not be able to keep up with de- mand for a while. The industry admits sales have a long way to go. There are only about 8,500 color sets) in Canada now, compared with) almost 5,000,000 black-and-white units Nexi--year,- r, officials are forecasting sales of 8,500 and 17,000 in 1967. There will be 100,000 color sets in Cana- dian homes by 1970, one offi- cial says hopefully. In dollars, this would mean $13,500,000 by 1967 and $50,000, 000 in 1970. OPENS DOOR Although the industry has been sharply critical of the gov- ernment's decision to put off color TV. broadcasting in Can- ada until 1967, opened the door for them. This fall NBC will broadcast 96 per cent of its prime-time shows in color; CBS 50 per cent and ABC 40 per cent. Such pop- ulation centres as Montreal, Hamilton, Toronto, Windsor and) Vancouver. can pick up these programs. Because of this, some retail outlets say, color sets are mov- ing out of stores as quickly as they can be shipped. CHE GUEVERA, BEN 'BELLA: LOST SOULS What Happened To Che, Ahmed? the rapid rise! of the medium in the U.S, has} has gone to North Viet Nam to train foreign recruits in guerrilla war tactics; has gone to another Latin "amer- ican country to promote revo- lution; has been demoted and pushed into oblivion by Castro in a clash over Moscow and Peking view- point, --Ben Bella has been. exe- cuted secretly by the new re- gime; been detained in an army camp near Algiers; been impfisoned in a remote Sahara Desert area, or has been given asylum in some other country. Whatever happened to the two, the twin mysteries now are internal cold war, Communist Castro is important to both Moscow and Peking for his potential influence in Latin Ben Bella, no Com- munist but a self-styled "anti- imperialist' leaning far to the left, was important for his in- fluence on emerging Africa. Both continents are arenas of Moscow-Peking struggle for su- premacy in revolutionary move- ments. At least one - manufacturer, Zenith Radio Corp. of Canada Ltd., is reported to have started | allocating sets to dealers. One large Toronto outlet says sales this year will equal those of the last three years com- bined--if it can get the sets. Another, although forecasting (a 300-per-cent. sales increase next. year, says. the cost -- |slightly more than double that of a big black and white set-- | still is too high. | DON'T LIKE PRICE "Many people don't: like the price of color yet, so they're buying black and white port- ables, waiting for the cost of color consoles to come down, "If we can get a $495 leader, then we're into mass selling." Manufacturers say the larger nroduction runs needed to meet demand will make some price reduction possible Right now RCA Victor Co. Ltd. is the only producer in Canada, althoizgh-Bbo minion Electrohome Co. Ltd of Kitch- ener is on the verge of entering the field with its own design Others are expected to follow. In announcing that Electro- home was developing a color set, President Carl Pollock said the growth potential in the field is spectacular. Lloyd Booth, RCA Victor's Toronto district manager and Canadian color co - ordinator, has said that if enough sets could be supplied "1966 model sales would double predictions." | Another limiting factor in Ca- nadian supplies has been the huge demand in the U.S. with American manufacturers unable in some cases to turn out enough tubes, supplies have been shipped south from Cana- dian plants. Voices Of Kingston Choir Sound Through St. Paul's LONDON (CP)--The choir of St. George's Cathedral, Kings- ton, Ont., filled the long nave and towering dome of St. Paul's Cathedral with sounds of praise in a stirring finale Tuesday to almost three weeks of singing regular services in London's chief church. Prominent Church of Eng- land musicians were among a congregation of about 200 at the farewell evensong service before the choir moved on to Cambridge for five days of re- citals in King's College Chapel. Choirmaster George Maybee led the 32 boy and 22 men in Handel's exuberant Coronation Cantata, The King Shall Re- joice, as a climax to the sing- ing of psalms and responses. Dr. Gerald Knight, director of the Royal School of Church in the singing of psalms and in this the choir has proved itself "This choir sang the psalms in a way that made us realize they are poetry, often very dra- matic poetry," he said later. "Tt has been splended to have such a body of singers so en- thusiastic about the music and the worship it is intended to ex- press. "The remarkable thing is that this choir consists of ama- teurs who perform on a pro- fessional level, on a high cath- edral level." Dr. John Bower, organist and master chorister of St. Paul's, wrote to Dr. Maybee praising his choir's "fine, full tone, the excellent ensemble, their sure- ness of pitch and indeed the -- feeling and musicality of style." Music and London composer Herbert Howells were among! musicians who congratulated the Kingston choir at the close} of its visit here Dean William R. Matthews of St. Paul's, in thinking the choir, said he believed the test of "a geally good cathedral choir" is! Several members of the choir remarked that the atmosphere of-the places where they have been singing since arrival here Aug, 7~York Minster for five days, one service each at West minster Abbey and Canterbur) Cathedral, and St. Paul's--pro vides special inspiration.
