Town To Build Walking Area WHITBY (Staff) --Portable curbs to be used as a "walking area' will be installed on Ar-| |thur st., it was announced this --|week by town council. The de- cision came in answer to a re- cent petition for a safety side- walk for children attending |Kathleen Rowe Public School.| The council further agreed the street would be "one way" | easterly from Henry st, to Brock st. s. due to heavy construc- tion work planned for the area. Heavy construction work, in- | cluding the installation of storm sewers, will present a serious 2\ problem it was agreed. Further evidence to this fact lay in the |knowledge the street is only 40; feet wide. Council suggested it could not install a safety sidewalk as re- |hecause of the planned heavy was given as lack of sufficient | funds in the streets' budget for|® lconstruction of the sidewalk, Deputy Reeve George Brooks {pointed out the plan to make Arthur st. a one-way street, from Henry st. easterly, was not a permanent decision. The street may be changed back to its present identity following completion of the planned con- | struction _ Progr Children's Bazaar Assists Hospital WHITBY (Staff) -- The chil- dren's bazaar, held in aid of the Whitby General Hospital Satur- day afternoon, netted $20 for the hospital campaign.
