gg. ae. tents, sone 7 -- Twins Outfielders Hobbled'toronro se SPORTS MENU For Third Game In Series By Geo. H. Campbell SPORTS EDITOR OPENING NIGHT! The local hockey season officially opens tonight! Yep! Tonight, at the Oshawa Civic Audi- torium, the Oshawa Generals take on Kitchener Rangers, in the first game of their 1965-66 OHA Junior "A" League schedule and so, from here on, it's for real, We still don't know too much about this year's edition of the Kitchener Rangers but it was noted that earlier this week, they con- ducted themselves in winning form against the new Lomtion Junior "A" entry, so perhaps they have a few surprises in store for their opponents. It's much too early to be sure -- and in Junior hockey, like with 2-year-old horse races, you mever can be sure, but it would seem, to this observer, that this year's Oshawa Generals are a little better balanced than last season. Certainly, they have more potential, especially in their forward lines, We'll miss "Bucky" Buchanan a lot and Bill Bannerman, quite a bit -- but some of the new recruits who have oined the Oshawa fold, a couple of young- sters from Lindsay, one from Gananoque and one or two from other centres, show a lot of promise, Ian Young has taken over the puck-stopping chores with confidence and authority, after his good season last year, divided between Whitby and Oshawa. In front of him, the Generals have a "rearguard department that appears just as strong as last 'year, and since most of them are "repeaters" -- obviously, they should be actually stronger, At any rate, tonight's _ Opening game here, against Kitchener, should tell us some- thing. DECIDING GAME! While the pucksters are opening their schedule this weekend, we find the Oshawa City and District Softball Association winding up their season on Sun- day afternoon. It's the fifth and deciding game of the Ju- venile "City Championship" finals between Jay Cees and Genosha Aces. The latter came from fourth place to create an upset in the semi-finals, ousting the powerful 'People's' team. They dropped the first two games of the finals to Jay Cees but then fought back to tie up the series. On Sun- day afternoon, at Alexandra Park, 2:00 o'clock -- these two teams will clash in the sudden-death, deciding 5th game. THE WORLD SERIES continues today, In fact, if the weatherman co-operates, we'll have a_ full Thanks- giving weekend of the annual baseball classic. We doubt very much if Minnesota Twins can take this series in four- straight games, but it wouldn't surprise at all, if they were to win again today. We figure they can win at least once in Los Angeles and this first one could be their best chance. Drysdale and Koufax will both be ready for Sunday and Monday. ( ALL-ONTARIO softball championships are being decided this weekend. Only one of major interest around these parts is the Inter.
