Spotlighting... THE GENERALS By WREN BLAIR General Manager of Oshawa Generals Danavalte? win ctreak came to an abrupt end in St. Catharines last Sunday when the Black Hawks posted a 6-4 Win over the Motor City squad. Saturday night here Billy » and Paul Cadieux paced ie locals to a 5-3 win over rboro. The Generals never got untracked in St. Catharines but this was mostly due to e excellent play by the St. tts club. It is our opinion that this St. Catherines squad will be far from the bottom of the league before the season is over, They went into London on Tuesday past and hammer- ed out a 5-3 win over the Na- tionals right on Treasure Island Gardens ice. Coach "Bep" Guidolin has been experimenting with some line changes all this week, get- ting ready for two tough games. The first is tonight in Niagara Falls as the two Bos- ton clubs battle in the Honey- moon City to break a tie for top spot in the standings. Cur- rently the Flyers and the Gen- erals share first place with 11 points each. Kitchener Plays Here Tomorrow. . : Tomorrow night the Kitchner Rangers are back in town and there will be lots of hard feelings in this game. Last time the Rangers were here the generals scored in the final second of play to gain a 5-5 tie. The Kitchener manage- ment argued for 15 minutes after the game finished that the goal came after the com- pletion of regulation time, but the referee stood his ground and ruled it was scored a split- second before the end. Subsequently Kitchener filed an official protest to the O.H.A. charging that the game was over. They also posted their $50 cheque to make the protest stick. However we learned late this week that the protest was denied by the O.H.A. on the grounds that this was protesting the decision of a referee and as such would not be heard. So Kitchener is a mite unhappy! The Rangers held the power- ful Niagara Falls Flyers to a 4-4 tie in Kitchener on Sun- day, with the Flyers having to come from behind in the lat- ter stages of the game to gain the point. All of which means the Twin Cities club is a vast- ly improved squad over last year, and they showed that in the season opener here. BOWMANVILLE BOYS BOWMANVILLE -- On Sat- urday, Oct. 30, the Blue-Bomb- 13 to capture the Touch-Foot- ball crown for the 1965 sea- son. The Bombers attack was led by Randy Donoghue with five touchdowns, while team mates Bruce Welsh had one convert and Gary Baker. was credited with two converts. The Alouettes picked up their points on Murray O'Brians two touchdowns and Larry Devitt's single, The Recreation Department would like io thank Larry Simp- son on a job well done both su- pervising and refereeing the Touch Football league. In the first Pee Wee game the Red Wings defeated the Leafs by a close 2-to-1 score. The Hawks' goals were scor- ed by Doug Vivian, Larry Bar- ber and Archie Graham inson. Line Changes In Saturday's Game... Getting back to the Generals line changes, they go some- thing like this. Billy Heindl has been moved from centre to left wing on a line with Danny O'Shea and Wayne Cashman. Meanwhile, returnee Billy White has gone into cen- tre ice where Heindl was be- tween Bill Little and George Babcock, with Chris Hayes moving from left wing on the O'Shea line to left with Brian Morenz and Bob Black. Danny Sandford will work with Jim Booth. Tonight's game will be a rough one. The Falls are no- torious at home. They haven't been beaten there this year and were only beaten at home once all of last season. How- ever the '"'Gens" are hungry to try and grab first place alone and this is the chance. Should Niagara defeat Oshawa, then tomorrow night's game here with Kitchener is a "must" game because-Qshawa could climb back into a\tie for top spot with a win over the Ran- gers. Face-off at the Civic Au- ditorium tomorrow night will be at the usual 7.15 p.m. Generally Speaking... Pau! Cadieux played an out- standing game here last Sat- urday, and was one of the better players in St. Cathar- Ines on Sunday ... . Danny O'Shea and Bobby Orr are both near the top of the scor- ing column and both players could jump into the lead with big games this week-end.... Bill Little played great games both Saturday and Sunday and scored several key goals. If Bill can come up with consecu- tive games like those week- after-week, he could be head- ed for a big year ..... George Babcock has all the tools and could be a top player but needs to hustle more to be a big man in this league.... Wayne Cashman played a bet- ter game in St. Catharines Sunday after a slow start this season. "Cash" has been hampered with a bad ankle since training camp ..:. The Generals are in Hamilton on Thursday (that game Is tele- vised) and have their arch rivals from Niagara Falls here a week tomorrow night. ... Meanwhile the Oshawa Jr. '"B" Crushmen won a great victory in Peter- borough on Monday. They shut-out Gary Darling and his squad 3-0 right on Peterboro ice .... The Crushmen are in Trenton tonight, but will be without Jim Booth, Brian Morenz and Bob Black, who are with the Generals in Ni- agara.... The "B" club plays a home game against Cobourg this coming Mon- day at 8 p.m. in Cobourg. Bingo takes over the first Friday in each month at the Civic Auditorium and the Crushmen will have to move a game or two... . Next home action for the Crushmen at the Civic Auditorium, will be one week from tonight, when Belleville pays their first visit.
