Salvation Army Home League, Branches Active In Community The Salvation Army Home - League, of the Oshawa Citadel Corps, is one of the Women's Groups in this City, with over two hundred mem- bers. The executive members are, Mrs. Major Gordon Holmes, who gives direction and guidance, to the League and the six groups which are apart from the main group. Mrs. William James is the secretary (or president), and is assisted by Mrs. George Beard, and the treasurer, Mrs. Mel Smith. The Home League Program is arranged to give counse] and di- rection in home management and child care and training; to bring about the improvement of the individual; to improve the larcact sT BOSS Service Given By Tops Clubs Members of Take Off Pounds Sensibly strive to lose excess weight by following treatment prescribed by their dociors and by drawing inspiration from planned group therapy within their clubs. TOPS Clubs indeed render a service to the community. Mem- bers who join these clubs have had little or no success in diet- ing alone, but by weekly atiend- ance at meetings, a great many have been able to shed unwant- ed pounds and this invariably leads to self-confidence, self- improvement, better health and it is probably these women would be more api now to share in community activity. There are- five Oshawa Clubs already organized and a new one underway. Three clubs meet at the Civic Auditorium -- Tuesday night: Motor City Streamliner Tops; Wednesday night: Tops Happy Gang; Thursday night: Tops Losin' Lassies. Three clubs meet Mon- day nights: Oshawa Fade-a- weighs at Bathe Park club- house, Inch Pinchers at Harmon Park and Westmount Challeng- ers, the newest club meet at Westmount Church. Most of the clubs are open to new members, especially the latter iwo meet- ing on Monday nights. The clubs will each be honor- ing outstanding weight losers for 1965 and crowning Queens late in December or early in January of 1966: Various projects have been planned to raise funds for this occasion as well as to as- sist members to attend the an- nual convention held next spring. Its membership consists net only of women who are members of the Salvation Army, but those who are Church mem- bers, and some who have no Church affiliation. The Home League, and the Groups, together, have adopted a Korean child, sent hand-knit- ted bandages to leper colonies, raised money to improve the kit- chen facilities im the Citadel, gave a generous donation to the Missionary Project, and have carried out many more projects which have benefitted sick and distressed persons in this com- munity.
