First Charter Presented in Oni. Held By St. John The Oshawa Women's Anxil- jary of the St. John Ambulance was formed on December 1, 1964 with the assistance of Mrs. Virginia Allison, Area Superintendent of Nursing, To- ronto. There were 14 regular members, two associate mem- bers and three honorary mem- bers, Mrs. G. D. Conant, honor- ary president; Mrs. C. D. Rus- sell, honorary. vice-president; Mrs. T. D. Thomas, honorary vice-president. The present membership is 23, and mem- bership is open to anyone wish- ing to join. Scholarships Won Abroad The University Women's Club of Oshawa and District believe Tha Auxiliary Here Funds have been raised with rummage sales and bake sales, auctions and draws among the members. In June the auxiliary catered for the local inspection of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, and in July a family picnic was held. At the present time the aux- iliary is working toward a ba- zaar, to be held November 26, at which baking goods, fancy work and a rummage sale will be held. The meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month, at members' homes. The first year has been very successful Cedar Dale UCW Returns Officers The November meeting of the Cedar Dale United Church Women was heid with Mis. Albert Singer presiding. Mrs. Frank Singer. was in charge of the devotional period and took as her theme 'The Good Shepherd"'. Mrs. Earl Hoy read several letters of thanks from members who had been remembered by the group during illness and be- reavement. A letter of special interest was read from Miss Muriel Bamford, saying she ex- pected to be in Toronto for De- cember and January, and ar- rangements could be made to have her speak on her work in India. The treasurer, Mrs. Russell and the members are looking forward to 1966. Each year the ways and means committee selects a fund raising project ships for girls graduating from Grade 13, and planning to enter | a university. Because of community sup-; port, this year four scholarships | were awarded. A $150 scholar- | ship was awarded to Kathryn/ Cuddy, from Henry Street High | School in Whitby, and three $100} scholarships were awarded to} Carol Dempsey, of Donevan Col-| legiate, Oshawa, Louisa Garrett of O'Neill Collegiate and Voca- tional Institute, Oshawa, and Mary Henkelman, McLaughlin Collegiate and Vocational Insti- tute, Oshawa. At the commencement exer-| cises of the district high schools the club will present a reference book to each of the scholarship winners, and te the Ontario Scholars. The scholarship project is the prime interest of the 119 mem- | bers who meet the second Wed- nesday of the month at the YW- CA. Programs offered include club participation discussions, and speakers on topics of cur- rent interest. Special interest groups meet at other times, and include literature, travel,| French conversation and bowl- ing.
