AN ESTIMATED 35,000 turned out Saturday in Bowmanville to watch the annual Santa Claus parade. They lined a_ three-mile route to ogle such attrac- tions as, above, Dumbo, a paper mache elephant con- structed and manned by Bowmanville fir efighters; centre, Humpty Dumpty, a massive model of the fan- tasy-land character, with guards Mrs. Ken Kimmerly and Ted Clarke; and, right, The Beatles, four area girls singing I Want to Hold Your Hand. It was the fifth annual Santa Claus parade to be held here and this year's event was spon- sored for the first time by the Bowmanvillle Chamber of Com- merce. 'FLOATS HIT' "Everything went well for us except the weather," said Clar- ence Bell, chairman of the float committee. 'The wind hit the floats hard as soon as we pulled them out of the barn." The parade started within 7 minutes of the scheduled 10.3 a.m. and the last float carrying Sant Claus .and his helpers reached. the dispersal area at Memorial Park about noon. | The parade, which was non- commercial, was under the gen- eral chairmanship of George Stephens, who had gained valu- able knowledge assisting Car- gon Ejliott in ithe town's four previous parades. An Emergency Measures Or- ganization vehicle preceded the) parade as did a police cruiser. The parade was led by the Welcome Clown, Councillor Wes- ley Fice, followed by the offi- cial car carrying Mayor Ivan M.
