Reeve BROOKLIN (Staff) -- John Dryden was re-elected as reeve of Whitby Township in Satur- day's election but. only made it by a narrow margin after a tight battle with Heber Down. Mr. Dryden, who polled 692 votes, had a majority of 38 voters, or 36.32 percent cast their ballots, Last year 38.09 percent of the electors voted. SEES VAST CHANGES Mr. Dryden, having served on council for. the past five years, two as councillor, two as deputy reeve and one as reeve, sets out on what he describes as an important new term. "There will be vast changes in the entire area as the dis- trict expands,"' Mr. Dryden said He suggested the Central Joint Planning Board, of which both the township and the town of Whitby are members, will be very active. "The trend is to- wards expansion," he stated." The next few years will be im- portant ones." "Tt was another close election, and a slight increase in majority over last year," Mr. Dryden stated after the final results had been posted. "Heber Down is the best candidate I've ever fought against. He made it an interesting battle all the way," he said. GOOD CLEAN FIGHT Commenting on the final re- sults, the losing candidate had nothing but praise for his op- ponent. "It was a good clean 7 3 Schoo! 'The Man Who Came To Dinner' was an unqualified success with each member of the cast turning in a flawless perfor- mance. ; ' Strong members of the cast, possibly due to the length of ap- pearance or part in the pia; were: George Chase as Sheridon Whiteside; Ron Smith as the stuffy pompous Dr Bradley, and Adrienne Haas, as Whiteside's efficient secretary, Maggie Cut- ler. Scott Laurence as Beverly Carton was also exceptionally good, The action throughout the play was fast with few if any ap- parent errors. At all times the cast performed admirably, with a complete feeling of believe- | ability in the characters. Superb leasting and direction was pro- vided by Hugh Lawrence who also portrayed the part of a highly annoyed father, Mr. Stan- ley.
