past, THE GUAWA TIMES W Wednesday, December 15, 1965 ~ 'Three Admit 'Damaging Car « BOWMANVILLE -- Three youths pleaded 'guilty to wilful 'damage to a parked car in 'Magistrate's court here Tues- 'day. Magistrate R. B. Baxter fined each $25 and $1 costs and tordered each to pay the owner $5 damages: : John Thompson, aged 23; 'Robert Norman Rogers, aged 116, both of Janetville, and John 'Frederick Riel, aged 17, 242 Queen Elizabeth cres., Lindsay, gave no reason for their act. Evidence was that one stayed dn Thompson's father's car {while the other two pulled the ewires from the spark plugs of a jparked car, then jumped into ithe waiting vehicle, drove out of anetville and threw the wires Into the ditch. "You realize this was very id,' commented His Wor- . "You could' have been charged with theft. If the zet- away car had belonged to one of you I would recommend that the licence to drive it be sus- pended indefinitely." Being abusive at the Govern- ment Weigh Scale, on Highway 401 east of Bowmanville, result- ed in two charges and cost a Pickering man $16. Magistrate R. B. Baxter con- victed Norman Vivian of per- mitting his truck to be operated without a name on the side and failing to produce a driver's li- @ence on request. One of the department of high- ways inspectors was talking to an OPP officer at the scale at 3 a.m. when they noticed a pick- up truck bypass the scale. When stopped the driver, who was from Bonaventure, Quebec, pro- fessed ignorance of the law that requires the name of the owner op the side of all commercial vehicles The officer requested that the truck be returned to the scale area. The owner, who was a pas- senger, was so abusive that he was warned to conduct himself in a proper manner. He turned the pick-up around and drove back to the scale. He did not have his driver's licence with him, and so was charged Mr. Vivian admitted several convictions under the Highway Traffic Act in the past three years, but argued that he drove 100,000 miles a year, or 10 times the distance of the average dri- ver. An Oshawa youth was convict- ed of leaving the scene of an accident. The fine was $100 and costs, or 15 days. Magistrate R. B. Baxter prohibited the accus- ed from driving anywhere in Canada for two years. Eric Wilfred Burke, 141 Park rd. s., pleaded guilty but said that it was an accident and not intentional Two OPP officers were sitting in a parked cruiser on the ser- vice station lot near Gord's A- Go-Go restaurant and dance ha Cars were parked in two rows -- one facing the building and one facing the highway As they watched, Mr, Burke, with his passenger, Ronald Babich, Oshawa, drove down between the parked vehicles and into the rear of the last car in one row. Then it backed up and drove off at high speed } Estimated damage fo the} parked car was $10 and to the efendant's $190. There was no evidence of drinking on the part of either youth. .s. al Karn's POLAROID COLOR PACK CAMERAS 28 King Eost -- Oshawa 723-4621 AAAAARAARARARARAAARA RAP ARARAAR APT, K K KK K AK : r .< A K K. f KK K K K my K x A Division of the S.
