m= ONIN. KATAT T FATHOM ec LAINUEAS Few Minutes Costs Lifetime Of Remorse Dear Ann Landers: Your col- umn hits everybody sooner or later. I got mine in the letter from the grandma whose daugh- ter left her three-year-old play- ing--unattended -- in the bath- tub, Here is my story: a left my three little girls in tub while 1 went to give the ant his bottle. The two older ris climbed out and turned the ucet on. A few minutes later e older one came to tell me t her little sister was '"'asleep with her face down in the water" and wouldn't wake up. We lived two blocks from the police station. Within minutes the police were on the scene. They rushed the child to the hospital, but it was too late. I can still hear the voices at the funeral, "She should have known better." "What a foolish person to have left those chil- dren alone." Ann, if you will print my let- ter and save just one mother the agony I went through it will be worth the heartache I am still suffering as 1 put these words down on paper. Thank you.-- Mrs. E. © Dear Mrs. E.: Here it is and I can add nothing except my devout wish that all mothers Who. read your letter will re- member what they have read. " Dear Ann Landers: I told my husband that the very next time he walks into the house with un- expected dinner guests I'm go- ihg to put on my coat before they sit down and march them ight over to a restaurant. He threw three extras at me last ght and I was embarrassed to ath. *I.am a good cook, Ann, but am no magician. I can't stretch a four-pound roast and T%4-pounds of green beans to feed 10 people. My husband says the salesmen he brings home are so hungry for home cooking that they'd rather have a fried egg in our house than a steak in a restau- rant. Please, oh please, tell me what to do about this.--Sick of Surprises Dear Sick: Your husband gave you the answer. Fry 'em an egg and don't make any apologies. If your husband objects to cackle - berries for dinner tell him to bring along extra T-bones when he brings those salesmen who are so hungry for home cooking. Dear Ann Landers: The clean- ing woman who has worked for me for six years isan alcoholic. Please don't send me your book- let. I am not interested in cur- ing her. When Ruby is stoned she cleans the house better than my other cleaning woman did when she was sober. As far as I am concerned, she can drink all she wants to. What I want to know is how I can get Ruby to quit drinking a half fifth of expensive scotch every time she cleans the house. I am sure she is not used to such fine liquor and when she buys the stuff herself she gets a very cheap brand. Would it be wrong for me to buy Ruby some cheap booze and tell her to leave the good stuff alone? Don't suggest that I lock up the liquor cabinet. I did this once and she asked for the key so'she could clean it thoroughly. So you see she is a smart old lush. Thanks.--Stymied Dear Sty: Obviously, she's a \lot smarter than the lady she | works for. | Hasn't it occurred to you to \keep the liquor cabinet locked land clean it yourself?
