Mr. Ozawa has achieved the highest musical honors, won the most coveted prizes for music, and received the unani- mous praises of audiences and critics on three continents. He conducted several famed orchestras in Japan. In 1959, he was chosen by the Japanese Philharmonic and the music magazine 'Friends of Music" as the outstanding talent of that year. He won first prize in the International Competition of Orchestra Conductors at Besan- con, France in 1959. He then studied with Herbert von Kara- jan in Berlin for one year. He was awarded the Koussevitsky Memorial Scholarship in the U.S. as the most outstanding young conductor at the Berk- shire Music Festival in 1960. As assistant conductor of the New York Philharmonic, he conduct- ed severai concerts with that orchestra on its tour of the U.S. and Japan. During the 1964-65 season, Seji Ozawa was the only adSsistant conductor of the Philharmonic while Leonard Bernstein was on_ sabbatical. He made his glowing debut with the Toronts Symphony in Jan- uary 1964. HE RECENTLY made a tri- umphant first appearance in Paris with the Lamourex Orchesira, and in Tontonr--with the Lendon Symphony. He spent part of his summer with the Chicago Symphony in his sec- ond season as Music Director of the Ravinia Festival. His busy summer last year also included concerts with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony at Tanglewood and recordings with the London Symphony. WHEN RAY PRICE "The Cherokee Cowboy" turns up at the Oshawa Civic Auditorium for a performance Tuesday, Jan. 25, there will be another "big name" on the program. He is "Little Jimmy Dick- ens,' one of the top attrac- tions in Countny Music. A mil- lion-dollar smile and vivacious personality are his trademarks. He justly deserves the honor bestowed on him by the Park Owners, Auditorium Operators and Theatre Managers through- out the U.S. who acclaim him "Mr. Personality" of Country Music, His latest hit, '""May The Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose'"' is something of a phenomenon. It has the unique distinction of being a best-seller in both the Country and Pop markets. Be- cause of it, Jimmy appeared on six major network television shows; Hullabaloo, The Jimmy Dean Show, The Lloyd Thaxton Show, The Johnny Carson Show, 9th. Street West and Hollywood Go Go. Jimmy became the first Country music star to complete- ly circle the globe on a world tour in 1964. Working his way across the U.S. to California, he took a jet plane to Hawaii, Oki- nawa, and a 30-day tour of the Far East. Other stops included a two-week engagement in Eng- land anda trip back to Quebec and Ontario via the Polar re- gions. He is a former member of the Grand 'Ol Opny of Nash- ville, Tenn. (the Carnegie Hall of the Country Music World). THE - CENTRAL. HOTEL'S Gold Rush Lounge has booked a new act for next week, start- ing Monday -- 'The Upredict- able Escorts."
